Bollywood star Akshay Kumar ‘broke down’ during a Houseful 3 success bash in Mumbai, when a journalist asked why he never won any award.
Akshay Kumar, had just spoken thanking all for the success of his latest movie, when the unexpected and slightly embarrassing question hit him.
“You make movies which make money and some even get appreciation, but why have you never got an award,” a journalist asked.
Taken aback, Akshay Kumar fell silent and grew tearful, and Riteish Deshmukh handed over a handkerchief, with which he wiped his eyes – though all in jest.
Akshay Kumar sniffed and said he did not know why there was never an award for him, but said it was ok as there was a ‘reward’.
“You are also as sad as I am,” he said mockingly, and added that he hoped to get an award some day.
Let the truth be told, Bollywood awards are fixed. Stars appear on the award ceremonies only if they are assured of getting an award. Many, like Akshay Kumar, have shown no interest in gaming the system.
Frankly, many of the movies Akshay Kumar makes are also terrible, making him a poor contender for any award.
