She told Deccan Chronicle that though she always wanted to be an actress, she finds it hard to believe where she is now. All it took was a 45 minute audition for her to bag the role of Simi, Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s girl friend in Raman Raghav.

A Telugu girl from Vizag, she says the Kollywood is yet to take note of her and she also wants to give her first shot to Bollywood.

Though Sobhita Dhulipala has modelled for Kingfisher calendar, fans recall most her modelling pictures in sarees. Here are a few of them.

Shock video: Young Punjab woman prepares heroin fix on terrace - inserts needle in arm and leg in struggle to find vein

We find that her veins have collapsed from abuse and she finds it hard to find one to shoot up the heroin. (video below)
June 30, 2016, NewsCrunch

If you want to grasp the epidemic of drug addiction in Punjab, this video may help.

A young woman is shown on a terrace cooking heroin - that is, she is trying to dissolve powdered heroin in water while heating it in a container to speed up the process.

She is perhaps aware that she is being filmed. There are a few other men, including the person who is recording the act and asking questions.

She tells him she has been married for two years and has even miscarried because of her addiction.

After preparing the mix, she injects it in one syringe to one of the men, who pumps up his arm to expose the vein.

Then she sets out to inject herself, but struggles to find a vein. There are black marks on her arms - spots where she usually injects. We find that her veins have collapsed from abuse and she finds it hard to find one to shoot up the heroin.

She inserts the needle into her forearms, then tries the knuckle, but fails to find a vein. She then sits down and starts dabbing her leg with the needle.

She tries the ankle in vain and then goes for the knee, where she finally manages to inject the drug.

The real shocker follows. We learn that the site of the drug mixing and injection is the terrace of her own home. Her mother comes up, has a casual conversation and goes back.

It is scary when heroin finds social acceptance  and becomes routine, like say having a paan.
The girl is asked, why is she not able to kick the habit. She rambles...

The video has been shared by Baltej Pannu, a journalist from Patiala.

After dishing out young Madhuri Dixit from its archives, Doordarshan has thrown light on early Shahrukh Khan.

A video showing Shahrukh Khan, close to his mid-20s, anchoring a music show and long way from his rise to super-stardom has gone viral.

Shahrukh Khan was active in television for three years between 1988 and 1990; the video was probably shot in late 1989 or 1990.

In the show he introduces budding singer Kumar Sanu, saying he sounds similar to Kishor Kumar. Shahrukh Khan's reading was correct and Kumar Sanu, would have agreed with it.  The singer had shifted to Mumbai in 1989 and changed his name from Kedarnath Bhattacharya to Kumar Sanu to encourage such comparisons.

In the video, Shahrukh Khan stands out with his screen presence but acts a bit a bit wooden and is self conscious. He would overcome these limitations in later years with dollops of overacting.

Though Shahrukh Khan started shooting for a television series called Dil Dariya in 1988 it got delayed. It was the 1989 series Fauji, in which he played Army cadet Abhimanyu Rai, got him good recognition.

He went on to act in Aziz Mirza's television series Circus, and Mani Kaul's miniseries Idiot, besides bagging minor parts in Umeed and Wagle Ki Duniya.

His TV career took off earning him enough fame to draw comparisons with legend Dilip Kumar and making it easier to transition to films, which happened starting in 1991.

Kumar Sanu also got a major break in 1990 with the movie Aashiqui turning him into a popular playback singer.

Subramanian Swamy tweeted on Friday morning threatening to burst government claims that economy was witnessing on uptick under Modi. Subramanian Swamy tweeted on Friday morning threatening to burst government claims that economy was witnessing an uptick under Modi.

The government especially the Finance Ministry has been claiming that India's GDP has touched 7.4% under Modi, though many experts have accused it of tampering with the methodology to boost up the numbers.

In the Friday tweet, Subramanian Swamy hinted that the truth would come out if 'Samuelson-Swamy Theory of Index Numbers' was applied to India's GDP calculation or RBI interests rates.

The revelation would be damaging and media would scream that he was indulging in  anti party activity, the tweet noted.

Subramanian Swamy and his Harvard University teacher Paul A Samueslon, the highly acclaimed economist, published  a paper on the Theory of Index Numbers in American Economic Review in 1974.

The often cited paper lays down a methodology to use index numbers to compare disparate entities such as trucks and fertilisers to evaluate different sectors of the economy.

Though the tweet seems to target Arun Jaitley and Raghuram Rajan, given that Modi has thrown his weight behind them, Subramanian Swamy may be angling for a bigger kill.

A drug peddler is in his car, with a sidekick, to supply drugs to a rave party. The sidekick gets into trance and asks him to stop selling drugs.

“It is time for them to go to rehab, not rave party,” he says.

“The sky is clearing up, drugs sadness, corruption and slavery will end. All clouds will clear,” he continues.

Why?

“Because ‘Kejriwal Sir’ is coming.”

The peddler dismisses the rant and says he has seen it all and looks back in the rear view mirror and gets spooked.

What does he see? Instead of the sidekick, he gets the glimpse of Muffler Man.

The video ends with profuse thanks to Kumar Vishwas Sir and ‘Kejriwal Sir’

How fanatics turned Swati’s terrible murder into a love jihad conspiracy

A few accounts associated with radical Hindutva started posting comments on Swati spouting abuses on the imaginary Muslim killer.

July 2, 2016, NewsCrunch

When Gandhiji was assassinated, the news broadcasts emphasised that he had been shot by a Hindu to prevent the tragedy from taking a communal colour.

Now that an engineer Ram Kumar from Tirunelveli has been arrested for Swati’s murder, it needs to be emphasised that he is a Hindu, if only to show the spiteful rumour-mongers their place.

Over the last few days, many have been blogging and tweeting irresponsibly, without an iota of evidence that Swati’s murder was a love jihad conspiracy. The theory was that she was hacked by a Muslim after she spurned his advances.

So, how did these fanatics hijack the terrible murder?

Swati was hacked on June 24. The next day a few extreme Hindutva websites  carried reports suggesting that it had been committed by an ISIS sympathiser.

An article by an extreme Hindutva website, which has been deleted now, tried to marshal evidence to make its case:

One, in Bangladesh, jihadis were hacking the bloggers…so there was a similarity in modus operandi.

Two, the murderer was seen in CCTV footage wearing a  backpack. Remember, how Kasab went on a rampage wearing a similar backpack.

The article produces further evidence. It quotes a ‘frightened resident near Nungambakkam railway station’ speculating that ‘the killer must have been influenced by IS video of slitting the throats of the non-Muslims.’

The resident, also adds that the identity of the murderer is yet to be ascertained.

This article was published by several other extreme Hindutva websites and that was cue for their wards on Twitter to take over.

A few accounts associated with radical Hindutva started posting comments on Swati spouting abuses on the imaginary Muslim killer.

The alleged Muslim killer even acquired a name, Bilal Malick, and that fuelled the hate tweets even more. Many of these tweets were tagged to #LoveJihad and some to #JusticeforSwati.

A campaign also started calling upon Hindu parents to trend for Swati. Bollywood singer Abhijeet was among those stalwarts who came out to mobilise Hindu parents to seek justice for Swati.

The Friday night terror attack in Dhaka cut short a life that had a long and interesting life ahead.

Daughter of a successful entrepreneur in garments business in Bangladesh, Tarishi Jain knew the dirty underbelly of the industry.

That made her step out in support of Ethical Apparel, a social venue that was started by two University of California Berkely students. It sells t-shirts and invests the profits to help poor individuals start business.

In April, Tarishi Jain had noted on her Facebook page that she was excited to launch Ethical Apparel's new clothing line and sought to mobilise support.

International Students Association of Berkeley (ISAB), was another organisation she was actively associated with at University of California Berkely, where she was pursuing a BA course in Economics.

ISAB helps foreign students integrate with the university system.

ISAB president Aradhana Sachdeva told The Telegraph that Tarishi Jain had to cut back on her work when she underwent surgery for three ligament tears.

That prevented her from physically attending  a few meetings of ISAB. But she still worked the phones and the Internet to tap funders, draw students and coordinate events.

Despite her engagements outside the classroom, Tarishi Jain also excelled in academics. She had  won an internship with Eastern Bank Limited that had taken her to Dhaka, where she had spent a decade and had passed out of American International School.

Journalist Sagarika Ghose has responded to Times Now editor Arnab Goswami's recent blog, in which he had attacked her as a has-been anchor.

Though Arnab Goswami did not name her, the reference was clear and  a troll-driven hashtag #ArnabSlapsSagarika trended for sometime on Saturday.

Sagarika Ghose tweeted on Sunday morning describing the present times as India's version of McCarthyism drawing a comparison to the infamous episode of the US history in which liberal-leaning individuals were hounded as communists.

She said people like her who were not acting like cheer leaders were being hounded. Most had sold their souls, she added, perhaps in an oblique reference to Arnab Goswami.

Taking on the trolls, who had gone after her on Saturday, Sagarika Ghose tweeted a link to her article on the chamchas of Modi regime and advised them to read it, again making a subtle reference to Arnab Goswami as a cheer leader.

Sagarika Ghose and her husband Rajdeep Sardesai have been critical of the ascendance of Hindutva politics under Modi and are frequently targeted by those swearing by it.

Arnab Goswami had written a blog in the Business World recently taking on his critics, who had stated that he had gone soft on Modi during his interview with the PM.

Without naming Sagarika Ghose, he had referred to her as a has-been anchor, who had deleted a tweet on his interview with Modi after getting  angry reactions.

Sagarika Ghose had deleted a tweet in which she had commented that Modi should have held a press conference instead of chatting with a channel exclusively.

Arnab Goswami said it was a common practice to give interviews are given to the channels which commanded large viewership.

He also said  desperately lobbies for an opportunity to be invited on my Newshour debates,
