All viral photos, especially the ones that are not photoshopped have great stories, to tell.

Here is oneby India Today photographer Bandeep Singh  on the Baba Ramdev photo, which went viral on Thursday.

Bandeep Singh  had to shoot a photo for an India Today cover story on Patanjali’s sensational rise in FMCG business. Like most India Today covers, this was also recording history after it had well unfolded.

Bandeep Singh  wanted to show Baba Ramdev as never seen before, an impossible task as the guru has been shot in all kids of poses and dresses.

His first thought was to put Baba Ramdev in sun glasses, which was fortunately turned down.

There were opportunities to shoot Baba Ramdev standing amidst heaps of cow dung or riding an old scooter in his farm, which he luckily passed.

The cover story almost had its photo when Baba Ramdev was made to sit on a on a forklift in the middle of rows of shelves in a warehouse of herbs.

On the way back, Bandeep Singh  heard Baba Ramdev saying he was doing the "ulta" thing of being his own brand ambassador.

We are not sure what that meant, but for Bandeep Singh, it was bulb-lit-up moment.

He immediately connected it to another statement made by Baba Ramdev, claiming he would make all other FMCG companies do shirshasanaor stand on their head.

Bandeep Singh  tried a variant of the idea on Baba Ramdev himself and we had our  favourite India Today cover ever,

The famed steel framework of Indian bureaucracy seems to be melting in Kashmir with two iconic toppers Shah Faesal  and Yasin Chaudhary going public with their unhappiness.

Kashmir as been on the oil since the killing of Burhan Wani, a militant who had become extremely popular on social media.

Shah Faesal, who topped the civil services exam in 2009, has threatened to quit saying it was never his intention to scratch the table for the rest of his life when he topped the exams. He may quit sooner than later, he has stated.

The immediate source of his ire is a collage that juxtaposed his image with that of Wani, purportedly to show the two faces of Kashmir.

After the image went viral, many media outlets also seem to have used it.

Writing on is Facebook page, Shah Faesal asserts that he did not join IAS to become a part of a propaganda machine.

He criticises the Indian media for spreading falsehoods, dividing people and creating more hatred, alienation and anger in Kashmirthan what Indian state can manage.

He also takes on the Indian government saying when a state kills and maims it's own citizens, it's self-injury and self-decimation of the worst sort.

The controversial use of rubber pellets by Indian troops has maimed and blinded several protesters, and triggered an outrage.

Earlier, this year’s number two all-India topper from Kashmir, Yasin Chaudhary had stated in his Facebook post that ZeeNews Aaj Tak TimesNow and NewsX were not telling the truth about Kashmir.

These media outlets were describing lakhs of angry Kashmiris, who were spilling out on the streets as terrorists, he had said, noting that many Indians were falling for this propaganda and baying for Kashmiri blood.

These claims under the excuse of national security and integrity were turning nationalism into aggression and xenophobia, he had noted.

He had noted that more than the killing of Burhan Wani, the protests were blowing up due to years of piled up injustice, unaddressed grievances and violations that people of Kashmir have suffered partly because of Indian state’s mistakes.

July 16, 2016, NewsCrunch

Most people especially in India may remember Qandeel Baloch, 26, as a Pakistani Poonam Pandey, who would occasionally act crazy.

There was more to Qandeel Baloch than offering her hand to Imran Khan or Virat Kohli or threatening to strip if Pakistan won a cricket game.

This week she had spoken to Dawn after a man called Ashiq Hussain had surfaced claiming that he had married her in 2008 and that the couple had a son, who now lived with him.

In the long interview, Qandeel Baloch had given her side of the story.

Born as Fouzia Azeem to a middle-class rural Baloch family, Qandeel Baloch was married off to Ashiq Hussain, against her wish. She said Ashiq Hussain was uneducated and physically abusive. She never connected to him.

Qandeel Baloch got pregnant in no time and the child made her stay in a forced marriage for a year and half. She would have walked out of the marriage otherwise in a month, she had said.

She wanted to study, get a job and stand on her own feet, and Ashiq Hussain reportedly said he would burn her beautiful face with acid, if she did any of that.

So, she ran away, along with her child. After her family refused to support her, she took refuge in a local branch of Darul Aman, a government run home for destitute women.

Darul Amans are notorious in Pakistanand frequently compared to prisons. Her son fell sick there forcing her to give him up to his father. She was never allowed to interact with her son again.

She got out of Darul Aman and did odd jobs including a bus hostess. She also did her 10th and later did her Bachelors in private.

Qandeel Baloch’s job choices improved, after stints in Daewoo and Lever Brothers, she started working in showbiz in 2012.

Qandeel Baloch’s job choices improved, after stints in Daewoo and Lever Brothers, she started working in showbiz in 2012.
She started with small fashion shows, small photoshoots, TV shows that gave her visibility.

Then she discovered Internet, YouTube, controversies, which made her a widely reviled yet watched figure in Pakistan.

If gossip is to be believed, she was to appear in Big Boss 10, and that would have got her into big league.

Qandeel Baloch used her money to help her parents, buying them a home in Multan. She helped her sister marry, paying a big dowry. She had gone home to celebrate Eid, when her brother shot or strangled her to save ‘family honour’.

Qandeel Baloch had two regrets. One, she had been cut off from her son, who she hoped would understand as he grew old.

Second, she felt Pakistan had never given her what was due. She had said she was a fashion icon, a feminist and a symbol of woman power.

She also told Dawn that she was consciously defying the patriarchal norms of the society acting the way she did.

She had told Dawn’s woman journalist, “This mardon ki society is bad. You probably know this already, think about the problems you face yourself.”

She continued: “I have struggled through difficulties to make a place for myself in showbiz. It was very difficult. What kind of problems I have faced, I don’t think anyone can understand.”

Those were among her last words.

The momentary handshake between PM Modi and Arvind Kejriwal has been making waves.

A video, which shows a fleeting encounter between the two on Saturday at the Inter-state council meeting, has gone viral.

Is the media reading too much into a routine event, or does the video really bring out the discomfort between the two.

An ANI video shows a grim-faced Modi meeting CMs of non-BJP states. He is greeting even those he may not be very comfortable with, indulging in small talk.

Harish Rawat, Naveen Pattnaik, Nitish Kumar for example. But with Arvind Kejriwal no such luck. He just extends his hand and retracts it instantly.

Let it also be noted that that Arvind Kejriwal was a little out of the way for Modi, who could have taken an extra step to greet him.

AAP claims that Modi is obsessed with Arvind Kejriwal and gets worked up about him.

Sometime ago Goa CM Laxmikant Parsekar had told the media that Modi had asked in detail about Kejriwal's visit to the state during a brief meeting.

India is making steady progress on a key road that leads to the the world’s highest airstrip at Daulat Beg Oldie (DBO) in Ladakh, located at over 16,000 feet.

The 255 km Darbuk-Shyok-Daulat Beg Oldi road is due for completion in 2022 and recently the work on a critical bridge was completed, reports  The Hindu.

India landed a C-130J Super Hercules transport plane in DBO in 2013, a move that was seen as signalling to China the reach of its air power in the area. The completion of the road would make DBO  fully operational and make it easy for the movements of men and material.

DBO is also about 16 km south of the strategic Karakoram Pass.

India is also strengthening several other roads along the route to facilitate the movement of heavy vehicles.

Over the last five years, India has been seriously playing catch up with the Chinese, who besides claiming territory in the region, have build impressive border infrastructure.

In Eastern Ladakh, China has built three air fields at Kashgar, Shiquan and Hotan and deployed several mechanised and armoured troops deployed along the frontier.

The Hindu reports that the Indian Army has also also moved in tanks, mechanised units and artillery to some areas of Ladakh. Fortified bunkers on mountains are also being built, besides stepping up patrolling in the border that has led to increased stand offs with the Chinese army.
