Kamal Kumar, a national-level boxer, collects garbage in Kanpur, to make a living.

A video published by The Quint shows him at work and explaining his plight.

Kamal Kumar won a few silver medals at district level and a few bronzes at state level. He also played at the national level tournaments.

He says with a little help he could have done better. Unable to find a job and with the responsibility of a family he ended up as a garbage collector.  He says he is sad that even after excelling in boxing he could not find a fourth-class job.

The sight of a man, who still walks with the build and dignity of a boxer, collecting garbage is depressing.

Kamal Kumar has two sons, both of who have played at the state level and won medals. He trains them personally and hopes that history does not repeat with them.

Divorcing Canadian couple take a smiling selfie outside court and go viral

A divorcing Canadian couple, Chris and Shannon Neuman, have gone viral with their smiling selfie. The photo, which was taken outside a court in Calgary, soon after filing for divorce, shows them smiling joyfully into the camera.
The photo shared by Shannon Neuman on her Facebook page has been shared over 35,000 times.

A divorcing Canadian couple, Chris and Shannon Neuman, have gone viral with their smiling selfie.

The photo, which was taken outside a court in Calgary, soon after filing for divorce, shows them smiling joyfully into the camera.

The photo shared by Shannon Neuman on her Facebook page has been shared over 35,000 times.


She explains that they are smiling as they “have respectfully, thoughtfully and honourably” ended their marriage.

Married for 11 years, the couple have two children. They decided to part amicably so that it would be easy on the children. They vow to be part of their children’s  lives not as squabbling individuals but as united parents.

As they move on to set up separate homes, children will get double the love and affection, Shannon Neuman, says.

In a fairly long career Aadesh Shrivastava composed music for over 100 films and created chart busters such as "Kya ada kya jalwe tere Paro", "Haathon mein aa gaya jo kal", "Sona sona", "Shava shava", "Gustakhiyaan", "Gur nalon ishq mitha" and "Mora Piya".
Aadesh Shrivastava is survived by his wife, Vijeta Pandit, and two sons, Avitesh and  Aadesh.

Popular Bollywood composer Aadesh Shrivastava, 51, passed away from cancer on Saturday mid-night from cancer in Mumbai.

He had battled cancer five years ago, which relapsed and tragically proved to be uncontrollable. Aadesh Shrivastava is survived by his wife, Vijeta Pandit, and two sons, Avitesh and Aadesh.

In a fairly long career Aadesh Shrivastava composed music for over 100 films and created chart busters such as "Kya ada kya jalwe tere Paro", "Haathon mein aa gaya jo kal", "Sona sona", "Shava shava", "Gustakhiyaan", "Gur nalon ishq mitha" and "Mora Piya".

The Anjalee-child actor Shamlee is all set to make her belated debut in Tamil movies.

 She has signed two films in Tamil with Dhanush and Vikram Prabhu, reports The Hindu.

Veera Sivaji, the Vikram Prabhu film will roll fist, to be followed by the film with Dhanush, where he plays a double role.

Shamlee, who will forever be associated with Maniratnam’s Anjali, acted in Telugu movie Oy a few years ago. But in 2010 she left for Singapore, where she stayed for five years to study and work, before the call of the movies took over her again.

Shamili hails from a family of actors; her elder brother Richard Rishi is a known actor and sister Shalini, also an actress, is married to Tamil superstar Ajith.

Rajasthan’s Badni Devi Daga, 83, passed away on Saturday morning, after observing Santhara for 50 days.

During this period, the senior citizen from Gangashahar, Bikaner, took only a few sips of water and had become increasingly frail.

A video shot by Quint on the 43rd day of her fast shows that she had stopped speaking by then and was waiting for her death peacefully.

Her family respected her decision and rallied around her in support.

Badni Devi Daga’s death is the first to be reported  after a legal controversy broke over the ancient Jain practice of ending life voluntarily through fast.

The Rajasthan High Court had termed it as illegal and ordered the Government to treat it as attempted suicide. The Supreme Court has stayed the High Court's order for the moment as it continues to hear the case.

Badni Devi Daga’s son spoke to Quint welcoming the Supreme Court stay.

TV anchor Amrita Rai confirmed on Sunday that she had married Congress leader Digvijaya Singh. The couple had married according to Hindu rites and registered their marriage as well, she disclosed.

In a post made on Facebook on Sunday, after media broke the news of their marriage, Amrita Rai also dismissed the accusation that she had married him for his property.

Amrita Rai is 45 while the Congress leader is 68. Given the obvious age difference  between them, many were quick especially on social media to suggest that she was marrying him with an ulterior motive.

Amrita Rai asserted she had married Digvijaya Singh for love, and added that she had requested him to transfer all his property to his son and daughters.

Describing herself as a professional woman, Amrita Rai said she had worked hard and made a place and reputation for herself . She believed in her professional capabilities and would continue to shoulder her personal and family responsibilities on her own, she said.

The relationship between Amrita Rai and Digvijaya Singh became public last year after a few of their intimate photos leaked on social media forcing both of them to acknowledge their affair, The couple was mercilessly trolled on social media.

Amrita Rai said the last one and a half years had been traumatic as she had become a victim of cyber crime and was treated as a criminal.

"I was trolled and abused in most derogatory language for no fault of mine. Those who themselves have no concept or belief in love and dignity tried to shame me on social media," she said.

Lastly, addressing the age difference between them, Amrita Rai said at her age she could decide on what was good for her on her own.

Fed up with the inefficient Hungarian authorities, who were reluctant to help them, Syrian refugees started walking towards Austrian border on Saturday night.

It was an 170 km walk and the refugees were already exhausted and out of reserves. Carrying their children and meager belongings, they started off on their feet.

They were encouraged by the announcements of Germany, Austria and the UK to open up their borders.

As thousands of refugees started pouring on the highway in the rain, the Hungarian officials were forced to send buses to pick up some of them.

From Austrian border the refugees were taken by trains and buses to Vienna, Munich and other cities in Austria and Germany. Nearly 20,000 refugees have entered Germany and Austria in the last 24 hours.

For a change, Europeans usually wary of refugees, welcomed them with placards and with supplies of immediate relief materials.

Their hand was forced to some extent by the sheer scale of the humanitarian crisis, which was brought home by the unfortunate death of the three-year-old Syrian child, Aylan Kurdi.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a Delhi Metro to inaugurate the extension of the Badarpur Line to Faridabad in Haryana.

An official video shows him interacting with the passengers all of who wanted a selfie with him.

Though he was expected to take a helicopter to Faridabad, ModI changed his mind and opted for the train.

He boarded the Metro's Violet Line’s (Line 6) Janpath Station at around 10 am and along with DMRC officials and a few union ministers, besides his security men.

He caught the fellow passengers by surprise, who as the video shows, were initially kept at a distance by the security men, while Modi read a book.

A woman mustered courage to approach the Prime Minister, to which he readily agreed. She trooped in along with her family touching feet, clicking selfies  and exchanging pleasantries.

There was not turning back after that. Other commuters made their way to the Prime Minister giving his security men a heart attack. Modi obliged everyone with selfies, which he has made so famous.

Thanks to restrictions on the height of pyramids and also on the noise, Dahi Handi celebrations were subdued in Mumbai this year.

The drought and the farmers suicides further dampened the spirits. Many well-known Dahi Handi mandals even cancelled the celebrations.

Still many indulged in the risky traditional Maharashtrian sport. One person has been  reportedly killed and 35 persons injured as their human pyramids collapsed.

Dahi Handis performed around Krishna Janmashtami mimic Krishna's childhood antic of stealing butter. The performers, called Govindas, form layers of human pyramids  to reach butter and curd which are hung at a height.

Dahi Handis are an organised sport, which come with lucrative prize money. They are an occasion to flex political muscle, raise hefty sponsorship and for the local youth, to show off their prowess.

A seven-year-old child, Satyam, got his head stuck inside a pressure cooker at a village in the Naringpur district of Madhya Pradesh.

As a video shows, the boy's head was successfully taken out by a few local men, who were able to cut open the cooker with a saw.

Satyam reportedly put his head in the cooker while playing in the kitchen. When he tried to take it out it stayed put. Though his family wanted  to take him to a doctor, a few local men came forward to cut open the  cooker.

Four men restrained Satyam, while one person hacked the cooker with a saw. It took about 45 minutes to rescue Satyam and the video shows men going about their task gently, taking care not to hurt the boy.

On of them had even  inserted his palm between the cooker and the Satyma's head to make sure the saw did not graze him.

A Mumbai-based Sunni Muslim organisation has demanded action against composer A R Rahman for giving music to the controversial Iranian movie Muhammad: Messenger of God.

The movie, partially funded by Iran premiered in that country late last month, but is facing opposition and possible ban in other countries.

The Indian Express quoted Mohammed Saeed Noori of the Raza Academy, saying the movie is offensive as it uses the Prophet's name in the title. Photography is not allowed in Islam and it is blasphemous to depict  the Prophet, he added.

The movie, the first part of a trilogy made by noted Iranian director Majid Majidi, does not show the Prophet's face and plays with the light and shadows to portray him.

Mohammed Saeed Noori's petition to Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis seeks a ban on the movie and legal action against composer A R Rahman, for “hurting the sentiments of Indian Muslims”.

At the heart of the controversy is the Sunni and Shia divide in the Muslim world. While both view Muhammad as the final prophet, Shias are seen as being more relaxed on religious depictions than Sunnis.

A group of Kashmiri pandits took out a colourful Kashmiri Janamashtami procession at Srinagar on Saturday.

A video from The Kashmir Monitor shows the group chanting Hare Krishna in loud speakers and dancing on the streets. Three girls dressed as Krishnaand his two wives sit on top of a truck that is colourfully decked up.

Greater Kashmir reports that the procession, which began from a temple at Barbarshah locality, passed through the city's nerve centre, Lal Chowk, without any incident.

The video also shows the Krishna devotees distributing Prasad on the street, occasionally even stopping passing vehicles.

Janmashtami festival was also celebrated at Shankaracharya temple and Hunuman Mandir at Amira Kadal, which saw a heavy rush of devotees.  


The Janmashtami procession, traditionally taken out by Kashmiri Pandits, stopped for nearly 15 years after militancy broke out in late 1980s. It resumed in 2004 and has again become an annual event in Srinagar.

The world's oldest vegetarian restaurant, Haus Hiltl, has been in continuous operation since 1898, long before being veggie was fashionable.

The restaurant serves vegetarian food from all over the world, but Indian cuisine is a specialty.

A relative of Ambrosius Hiltl, the founder, travelled to India to master the country’s cuisine, which she did with aplomb.

A video of the restaurant shows it also has a unique way of billing. Go to the buffet spread, load your plate with what you want to eat, and pay by its weight.

A PTI feature mentions on Haus Hiltl that Ambrosius Hiltl suffered from a disease and was advised by a natural healer to give up meat and go fully veggie. So, he joined the veggie restaurant as an employee and later took over.

A nearly one-year video of Madhya Pradesh policemen stopping Bajrang Dal activists from checking identification cards of people attending a garba celebration is going viral.

Hindutva groups led by VHP had issued a diktat last year to prevent Muslim youth from participating in the garba events in various parts of north Indiaespecially Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.


They had also put up posters prohibiting non-Hindus from entering garba venues. In at least one town Dhar, MP, the police had brought down the posters.

The video shot by an amateur, shows a group of Bajrang Dal supporters led by a local leader checking identification cards of the people, who are entering a garba venue.

The policemen at the venue led by an inspector object to it saying Bajrang Dal supporters did not have any right to checks the Ids.

A huge argument follows with the Bajrang Dal supporters dropping the names of State Home Minister and the local collector. But the police stick to their guns saying Bajrang Dal had no authority to check Ids.

“Who are you?” the inspector is heard saying and he refuses to get cowed down when Bajrang Dal supporters start shouting slogans.

His is ably supported by other cops, who threaten to arrest Bajrang Dal supporters, and manage to chase them away.

The dated video is now going viral as the Navratri season is around the corner and also perhaps for the policemen who decide to assert their authority.

Twitter reacted with anger after Mumbai banned sale of meat for four days during the Jain festival of Paryushan.

The civic body Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) issued an order prohibiting sale of meat on September 10, 13, 17 and 18.

The meat ban was reportedly in response to a demand made by a Jain organisation, Ahimsa Sangh, Vishwamaitri Trust, reports The Indian Express.

Though meat was banned for four days during last year's Paryushan also, this year it became controversial perhaps as it came at the backdrop of ban on beef.

Bangalore Police have arrested Gokul MG, a techie, on the charge of murdering his wife Anuradha. He seems to have had more than one motive to kill her. He reportedly wanted to reunite with his college sweetheart and was also unhappy with Anuradha, who was allegedly having an affair.

Bangalore Police have arrested Gokul MG, a techie, on the charge of murdering his wife Anuradha. He seems to have had more than one motive to kill her.

He reportedly wanted to reunite with his college sweetheart and was also unhappy with Anuradha, who was allegedly having an affair.

According to Bangalore Mirror Gokul MG and Anuradha fell out after getting married. He worked odd hours  and neglected his marriage, while Anuradha, who was teaching at a private institute allegedly started having an affair with a student.

Gokul MG came to know about this by reading her private messages and started collecting evidence meticulously about her alleged extra marital affair.

Knowing that Anuradha was a devotee of Shirdi Sai Baba, Gokul MG created an email ID of 'Baba' in 2011 and started corresponding with her. Anuradha fell for it and confided with 'Baba' about her affair with a student, But after Baba advised Anuradha to confess about her affair with her husband, she broke off contact.

Then Gokul MG created another ID in the name of 'Asha', and again managed to  gain Anuradha's confidence.

Asha offered spiritual cure to Anuradha's problems and asked her to send her nude photo along with her boy friend to perform a yagna.  The yagna would make Gokul MG accept Anuradha's relationship with her boy friend, claimed Asha. Anuradha fell for the trick and sent a photo of her taking shower with her boy friend.

After Gokul MG allegedly killed Anuradha, he reportedly used the photo to get the sympathy of his father-in-law. Due to his support , local police say they did not probe the Anuradha's death seriously when it was first reported.

Feisty Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor took on trolls on Tuesday morning delivering a knockout punch for every swipe they aimed at her.

Celebrities usually follow the policy of ignoring the trolls, but Sonam Kapoor as she had done in the past stood out there, holding blazing guns, and calling her detractors “morons” and “assholes”.

It all started with a tweet Sonam Kapoor posted opposing the meat ban in Mumbai during a Jain festival. Retweeting a First Post  article, she commented India would remain a third world nation because of a few intolerant and misogynistic people.

The BMC’s order of banning meat for four days during a Jain festival does not come as a surprise. Mumbai has in recent decades split up into exclusive religious and caste groups, which are bent on expanding their spheres of influence.

Given that the vegetarian groups such as Jains are also extremely wealthy, the campaign for a meat-free Mumbai is also more pronounced.

Nowhere is this more visible than in the transformation of Malabar Hill, which boasts of one of the most expensive real estates in the world, into a vegetarian ghetto.

Once a cosmopolitan hub of Parsis, Bohras, Hindus and Catholics, Malabar Hill is now dominated by rich businessmen from the vegetarian groups.

Over the years they have abolished meat from residences, shops and restaurants, a phenomenon that has been noted by media reports both Indianand International.

Many of Malabar Hill's residential societies have made vegetarian diet mandatory. A flat in a purely vegetarian society costs more than a flat in a mixed apartment, so builders are also drawn to them.

All local businesses from MNCs such as Dominos and Starbucks to grocery shops have been cleansed of meat and made to feature only an all-vegetarian fare.


What happens if you don’t fall in line, like noted hotelier Sanjay Narang, who set up a non-vegetarian restaurant here? His customers were allegedly targeted, nuts and nails were thrown upon them, and their cars were left with scratch marks.

The harassment allegedly continued till Narang decide to shut down the restaurant.

Arshi Khan shocks Pakistan, says she had sex with Shahid Afridi

Little known model and Indian actress Arshi Khan tweeted on Tuesday evening saying she has had sex with Pakistan cricketer Shahid Afridi.
It is not clear what prompted Arshi Khan to go public with her I-had-sex-with-Afridi tweet,

Little known model and Indian actress Arshi Khan tweeted on Tuesday evening saying she has had sex with Pakistancricketer Shahid Afridi.

She said she did not need permission of Indian media to sleep with someone. “Yes, I had sex with Afridi! For me it was love,” she added.


Arshi Khan, who is from Bhopal, was to play a role in India’s first 4D movie The Last Emperor, last year. She also seems to have acted in a few movies in South and is said to be in the Big Boss 9 shortlist.

Her tweet is likely to hit Shahid Afridi’s Paksitani fans, who are already riled by the rumours of his affair with her, hard.

A few Indian websites have been following the reported affair between Shahid Afridi and Arshi Khan and their exclusives are being picked up by sections of the Pakistani media.

IndyaWire.com had reported a few days ago that it had evidence that Shahid Afridi was meeting Arshi Khan at a luxury hotel in Dubai.  It also said she regularly visited Dubai every 2-3 months to meet him.

Both Shahid Afridi and Arshi Khan had recently denied that they were having any “affair.” Arshi Khan said she was just good friends with the cricketer.


But the issue snowballed into a controversy in Pakistan where Shahid Afridi tries to maintain squeaky clean image.

Arshi Khan was trolled on social media for having designs on Shahid Afridi and three days ago she reportedly filed a complaint with Bhopaland Mumbai police saying she was getting threatening calls, many of them from across the border.

It is not clear what prompted her to go public with her had-sex-with-Afridi tweet, which seems to have come like a bolt from the blue.
