Staff correspondent, September 26, 2015, NewsCrunch Hrithik Roshan is reportedly charging Rs 50 crore for his lead role in period film Mohenjo Daro, reports DNA. Quoting sources in the team, the Mumbai newspaper said, unlike other top stars Hrithik Roshan was not asking for any share in the revenue the movie would generate and has settled for a one time fee.
Hrithik Roshan's last movie Bang Bang made its money but was panned by critics. The actor, who chooses his projects carefully, is keen to make a good film, recreating the magic of Jodha Akbar.
Director Ashutosh Gowarikar, who has not had a comparable success since Jodha Akbar, is also keen to regain his touch. Hrithik Roshan's Mohenjo Daro is on floors and will hit theatres late next year. It would be a treat for history buffs and enact a love story set in the Indus Valley Civilisation.

No hymen, no diamond: Men's Rights'"campaign" for virgin brides gets brief media revival

Staff correspondent, September 26, 2015, NewsCrunch

No hymen, no diamond, a year old "campaign" by Mens Rights'Activists (MRA) for virgin brides has seen a brief revival.

A few media publications took note of it as the hashtag buzzed again on social media  and community fora.

There is also a Facebook page dedicated to the subject, campaign merchandise such as T-shirts is available, for those daring to wear it in public.

The stated objective behind the campaign is to find virgin unspoiled women, who have their hymen in tact.

Hymen, once a symbol of purity as well as patriarchy, is today being junked as a relic of a bygone era. As women increasingly claim the space due to them, any talk of virgin brides is losing currency even in conservative countries like India.

Many slammed the hashtag on Twitter for the regressive mindset it was seeking to promote. It was also pointed that girls may tear their hymen in routine activity such as cycling.

The campaign did create an outrage but flopped as it found no takers. Its Facebook page gathered a paltry 62 Likes and the number of T-shirts it sold is Zero.

But #NoHymenNoDiamond was never meant to seriously pursue virgin brides. It started as a Twitter hashtag in October 2014 and had been triggered by a MRA group Return of Kings more to taunt feminists than to breakaway from them.

What is baffling is the sudden media interest in a year old campaign.

In many cities, authorities have tried out several ways to deal with the idol rush. They create partitions in water bodies and try to confine the disposal to them. Of late, they have been retrieving idols immediately after the visarjan and transporting them out at the end of the day.

A video shows how government authorities dispose of idols after the Ganesh festival has gone viral.

The video shared on Facebook by  a Bangalore-based account on September 25 has registered 22,000 views and 1,200 shares.

In the video a lorry loaded with Ganesh idols is parked on a bridge. The idols are huge, the sort which are kept at public functions. A group of workers led by policemen drag the idols and throw them into the river flowing below.

The river is nearly dry and the idols drop into shallow water, breaking up on impact.

The video is possibly shot in in Maharashtra or a South Indian state. It is not possible to identify location as the audio is not clear.

While many devotees may find the visuals disturbing, a few comments pointed out that the organisers of the festivities also need to become more responsible. While they spend huge sums on organsinig the festivals, they dump the idols in the nearest water body after the festival.

Narendra Modi and Mark Zuckerberg's town hall meeting at Facebook turned out to be a memorable affair.

As a video recording of the event shows it got pretty emotional. Mark Zuckerberg shared a little-known anecdote of him following his mentor Steve Jobs' footsteps in visiting India seeking spiritual inspiration.

In a response to Zuckerberg's question about his mother, Modi described his difficult childhood and her struggle  and choked on his words.

The Facebook employees were eager to interact with the Indian Prime Minister and lobbed easy questions at him.

Facebook has so many Indian employees it looked like a a desi gathering complete with Bollywood songs blaring out of the loudspeakers till the PM arrived.

On the same day when President Xi was making an uncomfortable visit to Silicon Valley - China has banned both Facebook and Google - Modi's charm offensive clearly worked.

The temple, which Mark Zuckerberg visited after a suggestion from Steve jobs, could probably have been Hanuman Mandir and Ashram, at Kainchi, Nainital.

Set up by Neem Karoli Baba, whom Steve Jobs had accepted as his guru, Kainchi’s Hanuman Mandir and Ashram continue to be popular with Indian and Western devotees.

While speaking at the town hall meeting along with Indian PM Modi, Zuckerberg had said on Sunday that he had visited an Indian temple when he was going through a rough patch during the early phase of his company.

His mentor Steve Jobs had suggested that he visit a temple in India to connect to his company’s mission. Steve Jobs himself had visited the temple when he was barely past his teen years.

Zuckerberg unfortunately did not disclose, which temple he had visited.

The public record on Steve Jobs’ India trip, indicates that the temple in question was probably Kainchi Hanuman Mandir.

An Uttrakhand tourism brochure says Steve Jobs had visited the Mandir and even got the vision to create Apple there.

During his hippy years Steve Jobs came to India to meet Baba Neem Karoli, considered a reincarnation of Lord Hanuman. But by the time Steve Jobs arrived at the Kainchi
Ashram in 1974, Neem Karoli Baba had passed away.

There is also a possibility that Steve Jobs, who travelled widely in India and went up to Tibet, may have recommended some other temple, but left no public account of it.

However, India disappointed Steve Jobs. Troubled by lice, scabies, dysentery and a near mob thrashing, he returned disappointed, notes The Economic Times .

Neem Karoli Baba built several temples around the world. But Kainchi Hanuman Mandir was one of the two temples, he built personally.

A recent video by Being Indian on the clichés about Indian Muslims has gone viral. Uploaded on September 23 it has been viewed over 167,000 times on YouTube.

It shows the usual stuff Indians spout about Muslims – some innocent, some prejudiced – but all repetitive enough to annoy anyone.

Can’t marry you, you won’t get a house, do you eat vegetarian breakfast, Indiaplays Pakistan– who do you support, ISIS or Taliban – make your pick, drinking is haram for you…on and on.

The slickly short video shows a good looking actor playing Muslim enduring the assault without uttering a word and that makes the video sell.

At different points in the video, a man greets the actor playing Muslim - Happy Birthday, Eid Mubarak and Happy Anniversary. Each time he wants a biriyani treat.

The video is a must watch – a nice rap on the knuckles, say something else. Think different.

A video of Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella wiping his hands after a handshake with PM Modi is going viral.

A few random bhakts are interpreting it as a deliberate insult to their icon.

The video, an edited snippet from an NDTV footage, was taken during the last week’s CEOs dinner with Modi when he visited Silicon Valley.

It shows CEOs waiting for their turn to greet Modi. Satya Nadella shakes hands and moves away wiping his hands.

While some directed their outrage at Satya Nadella, the gesture looks instinctive and harmless. May be it was a bit hot inside or his hands were sweaty and Satya Nadella, perhaps, instinctively rubbed them to dry up.

Satya Nadella has expressed his appreciation of PM Modi and has been in forefront of the effort to welcome him in the Silicon Valley.

Many also compared the NDTV footage with another video in which George Bush is seen wiping hands on Bill Clinton’s shirt after shaking hands with a Haitian crowd. That video had also gone viral.

But Satya Nadella is no George Bush nor is Modi a poor Haitian.

Last week Rini Sampath, the president of the
student body at the University of Southern California (USC), went public with a racial abuse she had suffered. The post went viral, drew ample media attention and prompted university authorities to act.

Rini Sampath
, an international majors student, was born in Theni, Tamil Nadu, and emigrated to the US when she was in the sixth standard.

In her Facebook post she stated that when she was walking in the campus recently someone
shouted at her: “You Indian piece of s—!” The person, who has not been identified, then threw a drink at her.
After the abuser's friends realized that the union president was the victim, they apologized, which she says stung even more.
The incident made Rini Sampath recall the bitter racial discrimination she had endured all her life in the US. As a child she was singled out, not allowed by her classmates to play with them, who also asked if her mother was from Mars. Before she could become USC union president, she had to overcome huge self-esteem issues.

She told The Washington Post, “I was struggling to learn English and I was struggling with what I looked like, in a sea of kids who didn’t look like me.”
Becoming the USC students president was not easy for Rini Sampath. She was running on a ticket with another woman, who was also a minority, and was told that she had no chance of winning.
Rini Sampath did and proved her critics wrong.

Ladakh witnesses frequent flareups between Indian and Chinese troops. The border is not demarcated, which is intensely patrolled, and both the sides accuse each other of intruding.

A video uploaded in August this year shows a standoff between Indian an Chinese soldiers at near Tibetan border.

India soldiers are seen in the video taking Chinese to task. They ask why Chinese soldiers are in the Indian territory.

They also ask Chinese why so many of their soldiers are patrolling. As part of their confidence building measure both the countries have agreed to limit the number of soldiers who will patrol the area.

The Chinese soldiers are defensive and deferential. While  Indians use words such as "bloody," Chinese call them "Sir."

But given the mastery of the Chinese troops over English, any intelligent conversation with them is impossible. The Chinese keep repeating that "the (border) line is clear," possibly meaning the opposite of it.

As the commanders squabble - the soldiers of both the countries hold their ground forming human chains.

Some of them take out the mobile cameras and shoot.

After Aamir Khan backed out, the "Kung Fu Yoga" team has found another Indian actor to play parallel lead to Jackie Chan: Sonu Sood.

"Kung Fu Yoga" has begun shooting in Dubai, where it will wrap up in a month’s time, and then shift to Indian locations.  It will also be shot in Beijing.

The movies tells the story of a detective from Hong Kong, who teams up with a gambler, to fight a notorious Chinese criminal.

Sonu Sood, who has not signed a new movie after Happy New Year, managed to keep the news under the wraps till Bombay Times reported on Wednesday that "Kung Fu Yoga" director Stanley Tong had zeroed in on him.

Following the report Farah Khan congratulated Sonu Sood to which he responded confirming the news.

"Kung Fu Yoga" is a co-production between China’s Taihe Entertainment and Shinework Media, and India’s Viacom 18.

Jackie Chan was keen on Aamir Khan, who is phenomenally popular in China, thanks to the path breaking success of 3 Idiots and then PK.

But Aamir Khan, who had committed to Dangal, said he would be free only next August.

"Kung Fu Yoga" has also signed up Tiger Shroff for a role in the movie.

The baby lion is adorable and its muffled cry adds to its cuteness and there is no surprise if the viral buzzed around.

But as many have pointed out, the cub was not trying to roar. When baby lions roar it reportedly sounds like a house cat meowing.

So, what was baby lion doing – it was reportedly just calling out for its mom. That’s how they supposedly do it.

The incident is similar to a Delhihead constable, who was caught on camera travelling in Metro pissed drunk. The man was dismissed after that.

An incredibly smart baby has become a global sensation by throwing its pillows down to create a cushion to get off its bed.

A video of the incident shared by the  California baby's father, Francisco Aguilar, has gone viral.

Francisco Aguilar installed a CCTV to catch his son, whom he calls a genius, red handed.

The video  shows his son, who has not been named but possibly less than a year, waking up on his bed, which has a height of more than two feet.

The baby, who can only crawl,  wants  to get down, but cannot as the cot is  too tall for him. He knows that if he drops from the bed he will get hurt.

So, what does he do? He notices the pillows lying on the bed and starts throwing them down, creating a cushion for his descent.

The baby, with still a developing brain, figures out the impact of the unchecked fall and a way to buffer it.

As he gets down it he does not forget to get its pacifier.

Former Bangalore police commissioner M N Reddy has become the first senior official to condemn Dadri beef murder, calling it a national shame.

A 50-year old man Iqlakh was lynched on Monday night at Dadri village in Greater Noida, UP, after rumours spread that his family had slaughtered a cow.

While, the rumour, which originated at a local temple turned out to be false, the murder has created a national outrage. The 200-strong mob also beat up Iqlakh's 22-year-old son Danish, who serves with the Indian Air Force. Danish, who is critically injured, is at the hospital.

As the outrage spread M N Reddy, who is currently posted as DGP fire services, expressed his anguish in a series of tweets.

Lynching a person for allegedly eating beef was a national shame, he tweeted. He pointed out that India had become a constitutional democracy, thanks to the sacrifices of our forefathers. Vigilantism could destroy it, and needs to be condemned, he added.

He also retweeted a Rana Ayyub tweet,  which also condemned the act, and expressed hope that "We shall overcome.
