October 1, 2015, NewsCrunch

If a strange woman stops you on street and asks if you masturbate, how would you react?

Well, she is in a white coat and is doing some survey, so you may play along.

Would you still stay with the survey if she asks about your dick size and then pulls out an inch scale to know the exact measurement?

These are the scenes that play out in a new video from Funk You: Girl Asking For Dick Size from Strangers!

The response to the question varies – with most playing along giggling. Yes, everyone masturbates – with one bloke doing some complex math to fix the average at 2.5 times a week.

What about the dick size – some of them point out that their organ rests in two conditions – placid and erect – and give the sizes of both in centimetres and inches.

Of course, there is an odd male scampering away totally horrified.

The video is fun to watch and is going, going viral. Uploaded on September 29 it has clocked nearly 165,000 views. Sex sells and Funk you proves it again.

In the comments section, some ask, how women would react if a man went asking for similar details. Food for thought here.

Lalu insisted on calling Amit Shah a man eater.

He went on to wonder what the “man eater” was doing in Bihar, roaming around.

Amit Shah is currently touring Biharmobilising workers and addressing election rallies. On Wednesday, speaking at Begusarai Amit Shah had denied Lalu’s charge that BJP was against reservation.

He also said Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had backstabbed NDA by snapping ties.

Things Engineering Students Are Tired Of Hearing is a genuinely funny take
on
India’s obsession with engineering. (Video below)
October 1, NewsCrunch

Three engineering students, who don’t know each other, share an auto.

They introduce themselves  - two of them from from second year chemical engineering, D-Sec. The third one is a first year chemical engineering student from D-Sec.

Hearing them the auto driver also introduces himself: he also passed out of an engineering course in D-Sec.

Being Indian’s  Things Engineering Students Are Tired Of Hearing is a brilliantly produced video on India’s obsession with engineering. It is a rat-race flagged off by family and neighbours.

Comparisons are rampant and meant to motivate. What ever your interest, some MBA course is expected to follow, while the neighbours pester you to fix their appliances.

Being Indian catches the pain of the problem with good writing, editing and acting.

PM Modi’s pet project Swachch Bharat is completing one year. The project was Modi’s first major programme announcement.

Though he personally led the campaign, mobilising funds and brand ambassadors, it has left fellow citizens unimpressed, a survey finds.

Swachch Bharat had two objectives - to make toilets available in rural areas and clean up public spaces in cities. In both of these it is the state governments, which call the shots.

Centre can do little more than directing funds and giving nudges. Fatally, the programme was rushed through without giving due thought to improve civic administration.

Municipalities and corporations are in shambles, but they are the main delivery vehicles in Swachch Bharat.

With these continuing to be dismal, Swachch Bharat never stood a chance. It became a photo opportunity for PM and his brand ambassadors.

The Hindustan Times reports on a survey by ‘LocalCircles’ on what people feel about Swachch Bharat. The survey claims to have interviewed over 30,000 people. Here is what it found:

Has your city become cleaner?

Yes – 21%

No  - 72%

Can’t say   - 7%

Has availability of public toilets improved?

An adorable video Kiss Me Now, Meet Me Later shows four couples total strangers to each other kissing blindfolded to see if they can make sparks fly that way.

The Toronto couples are brought together face-to-face blindfolded. As they try to get to know each other, some are tense and some relaxed. They break ice in different ways and bring lips together.

With some the passion takes over and some  stay apprehensive. After they remove the blindfold, in some the sparks fly, and some stay awkward.

The video was a social experiment conducted by filmmaker Jordan Oram, who was trying to give a different spin to the dynamics couples go through. Can the familiar routine - boy meets girl, get to now each other and kiss - be turned upside down?

Jordan Oram says "What if it was like, you met someone, you kissed them, and then you introduce yourself and you build chemistry from that?'

Jordan Oram  took the help of eight strangers to create the video, which in the last one year has generated over 1.2 million views.

But unfortunately, no followup is available to check what happened to the couples after the video.

If all the black money that has been declared under the amnesty scheme that ended on September 30 is distributed, each Indian would get Rs 18.

Before the 2014 elections, PM Modi  had promised to bring substantial portions of black money within 100 days of forming government. The recovered money would be so huge, he promised to deposit Rs 15 lakh in every citizen's bank account.

The government had announced a three-month window for black money holders to declare their stash and escape prosecution.

After the scheme ended, the government announced  that 638 taxpayers had declared undisclosed foreign assets worth Rs 3,770 crore.  Of this the government gets to keep 60% (30 % as tax and 30 % as penalty) of the declared amount.

According to math done by The Telegraph the government will receive Rs 2,262 crore by December 31, which will amount to Rs 18 per head, if distributed.

That would leave Modi short of Rs 14, 99, 988 short of fulfilling his black money promise, which BJP president Amit Shah had described as jumla once.

If you have ever wondered what Mahatma Gandhi was made of, a video of an interview of him by Fox Movietone, should answer your question.

The interview, recorded by Fox movietone at Borsad possibly in late 1920s, gives an insight  into Bapu.

The American reporter is out of his league, while Mahatma is thoughtful, uses pauses and wit to fend off the questions thrown at him.

Even if you have not heard or seen any Gandhi footage before, the video would still look familiar. You can thank the brilliance of Ben Kingsley for that; he managed to capture Gandhi's mannerisms and speech with impressive authenticity.

As the Fox reporter approaches, an aide cautions him that  Gandhi has a feeble voice and is prejudiced against talkies.

The aide had clearly underestimated Gandhi's love for journalists - he knew how to use them to pile pressure on the British.

In the interview, Gandhi looks almost reluctant, plays cards close to chest.  He says he cannot reveal all his strategy on what he will do if the British do not listen to him

A few segments make the interview footage priceless archival material.

Reporter :- "And if the king of England invited you to dinner at Buckhimgam Palace you would go in your customary Indian dress?"

Gandhi :-"In any other dress I would be most discourteous to him because I should be artificial."

Reporter :- "If England does not meet your demand are you prepared to return to jail?"

Gandhi :- I am always prepared to go to jail

Reporter :- Would you be prepared to die in the cause of Indian independence?

Gandhi :-That is a bad question

Gandhi also says after India gets independence he would ensure absolute prohibition in the country and ban child marriage as well.

Malayalam movie Ennu Ninte Moideen. which captures the tragic love story of Moideen, a Muslim youth, and Kanchanamala, a Hindu woman, released outside Kerala on October 2.

Driven by word-of-mouth buzz, the movie is one its way to become one of all-time hits of Kerala cinema. The movie has gained over Rs 10 crore in the first nine days, an impressive feat for a Malayalam movie.

Prithviraj and Parvathy play the lead roles of the real-life story of Moideen and Kanchanamala, which took place 60 years ago.

K S Shaji wrote a story in Open magazine in 2009, basing it on the Hindu-Muslim forbidden love as it played out in a conservative Kerala town Mukkom, in Kozhikode district,

BP Moideen and Kanchanamala, who is 75 years now,  like other students, used to  take a canoe to cross the Iruvanji river and then a bus to their school at Kozhikode.

She was the daughter of a Hindu landlord, he the son of a prominent Muslim planter. They were childhood friends, who studied in the same school, grew up playing and studying together. And they fell in love.

Their relationship was found out and both the families successfully separated them physically, but failed to wipe out their devotion to each other.

Kanchanamala was placed under house arrest for years, while Moideen was disowned by his family. His father shot at him and stabbed him 22 times, though Moideen survived these separate incidents of murderous attacks.

Moideen and Kanchanamala refused to elope not wanting to shame their families but nor did they marry anyone else. Moideen's family eventually took him back and he made a name for himself in social work before tragically drowning, while heroically trying to save victims of a boat accident. He was 44 then and Kanchanamala was 41.

A few years down Moideen's mother took Kanchanamala home to live as her dead bachelor son's  widow. Shaji's story is titled - The widow of a bachelor.

Kanchanamala even got Moideen's share of property, which she uses to continue the social work started by him.

The river Iruvanji still flows close by. But in the last six decades Kanchanamala has not gone near it,

Baby faced men, who are unable to grow beards, are opting for implants to look more mature or attractive.

The New York Times interviewed many surgeons in the US who said they were doing lot more beard implantations than ever before.

The International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery says beard transplants more than doubled in the two years between 2012 and 2014.

The factor behind the growing popularity seems to be the technology, which has been refined to make implanted beards look natural. Surgeons transplant single hair follicles taken from scalp. This means they can be shaved and then grown, just as with regular beards

But they don’t come cheap and may cost anywhere between $5,000 to $25,000 depending on the density desired.

Rajiv Gandhi faced an Army coup as well?

October 4, 2015, NewsCrunch

Retired Lt Gen P N Hoon, former head of the Western Command, has claimed that in 1987 Indian Army was part of a plot to remove Rajiv Gandhi from power.

Though he has made these claims earlier as well,  his just-released book 'The Untold Truth' reignites the controversy.

A report by The Times of India, based on the book,  informs that Army HQ under Gen Sundarji asked three para-commando battalions  to move for action in Delhi. One of these battalions was under Hoon, who not only stalled the movement, but also briefed Rajiv Gandhi and his principal secretary Gopi Arora  about the plan.

He was also approached by Congress dissident leader V C Shukla, who wanted to know how Army would react, if President Zail Singh dismissed PM Rajiv Gandhi.

In his presidency's closing days, Zail Singh seriously thought of ousting Rajiv Gandhi from power. Several opposition leaders, Congress dissidents and an assorted group of backers, including journalists, bureaucrats and lawyers, had come together to see Rajiv Gandhi exit before his time.

As the contemporary accounts of the tumultuous events reveal, the maneuvers were political and legal in nature. Nobody,at least on record, ever thought of dragging the Army into it.

But if Zail Singh had gone ahead and dismissed the Prime Minister, he would have not only overstepped the outer boundaries of his power, but also entered constitutional grey waters.

It would have created a free-for-all situation in which the the force and the loyalties of different institutions would have come into play.

May be it was in that context the pro-dismissal group sought to open a channel with the Army to try to keep it on its side.

Hoon admirably opted to stay out of the messy power struggle saying Indian Army was apolitical, Sundarji seemed to have been more deeply involved if we go by his account.

Why would Sundarji the most ambitious of Indian generals, a soldier who took incredibly risks, do it? If he indeed did so, there is no easy answer for that.

October 10, 2015, NewsCrunch

Three media organisations, independently accessing Ministry of Corporate Affairs documents, have alleged that Uttar Pradesh BJP leader and MLA Sangeet Som was director of Al Dua Food Processing Private Limited, which owns a meat processing plant in Aligarh.

The Hindustan Times was the first to break the news, which was developed with additional information by Scroll, and was later confirmed by The Times of India.

The information is significant because Sangeet Som, who identifies himself as a hardline Hindutva leader, had dismissed the revelation as an old political conspiracy.

He had also visited Dadri recently where a middle aged Muslim man had been lynched for allegedly sacrificing a cow and eating beef.

Sangeet Som had warned that a befitting reply would be given if innocent people were framed. Earlier, he had also been accused of making inflammatory speeches during the Muzzafarnagar riots.

Here are the five key points to know about Sangeet Som's alleged links with meat business:

1) Al Dua Food Processing Private Limited describes itself as a leading producer and exporter of halal meat from India and a specialist in the export of “halal buffalo, sheep, goat meat and hides”.

2) Documents show that Sangeet Som was the director of Al Dua between 2005 and 2008. Al Dua's filings, identifies one of its directors as Sangeet Singh Som, son of Ombir Singh, and a resident of KA-64, Kaushambi, Ghaziabad.

As per documents published by Scroll this address matches with the address Sangeet Som provided in his election affidavit for the 2012 elections in Uttar Pradesh. He also declares that an adjoining plot KA-65 also belongs to him.

Scroll also revealed that Sangeet Som owned 20,000 shares in the company. The other two directors Mainnuddin Qureshi and Yogesh Rawat owned a similar number of shares.

3) Quoting Ministry of Corporate Affairs documents, Scroll also reports that Sangeet Som served as an additional director at Al-Anam Agro Foods till 2008, which was also in meat business.

4) Sangeet Som denies that he was involved in establishing the meat factory. He told HT that he was unaware of being appointed as a director of the company. He said he had only bought the land which was later sold to Al Dua.

He also blamed a Samajwadi Party leader Atul Pradhan for creating the controversy to tarnish his image.

5) The Times of India spoke to the Al Dua office, which said Som was not associated with the company in anyway. It gave the names of its current directors as Mohd Kamil, Mohd Mohsin and Nasira Begum.
