If India's richest temple at Tirupati was a corporate entity, it would have been vying for a Forbes listing.

The coming financial year, Tirumala Tirupati temple expects to earn a total revenue of Rs 2,678 crore. So, where does its money comes from:

    1) Hundi or the offering box is the top contributor.  Over two crore devotees may donate Rs 1,010 crore to the temple.

    2) Money deposited in nationalised banks will earn an interest of Rs 757 crore.

    3) Rental from shops, restaurants and lodges owned by the temple - Rs 247 crore.

    4) Ticket sales to devotees - Rs 264 crore.

    5) 'Laddu prasadam' expected to account for Rs 175 crore

    6) From sale of human hair of devotees who get their heads tonsured - Rs 150 crore

PTI reports that the Tirumala Tirupati temple projects to spend Rs 981 crore on salaries, outsourcing expenses, engineering works and for propagation of Hindu Dharma. So, its earnings before tax would be nearly Rs 1,700 crore, making it hugely profitable.

But if the temple had been corporate entity, it would have been worried as its income is stagnating.

Last year, Tirumala Tirupati temple had projected an income of Rs 2,530. This year there has been just a small growth  of Rs 148 crores.

India's highest run-chase ever on Australian soil also inflicted a rare 3-0 defeat against the hosts.

Much of the tense drama played out in the last over, which Indian fans will cherish for long.

Feeling confident Shane Watson gave the ball to rookie Andrew Tye as India had to get 17 runs off 6 balls with a shaky Yuvraj on strike.

Yuvraj had struggled to get 5 off 9 balls till that point.

The first ball saw vintage Yuvraj regaining his touch under pressure and he whipped it fine leg for a boundary.

13 needed from five balls. Yuvraj smashed the next ball over deep mid-wicket for a six to cut the equation to 7 from four balls.

The next three balls saw Yuvraj and Suresh Raina running for 1, 2 and 2.

The equation now - two from the last ball man in firm Raina on strike.

As the fielders closed in, without bothering about them, Raina slashed it over point for a boundary.

With Raina (49 n.o.) and Yuvraj  (15 n.o.) India had chased Australia's mammoth target of 198 which was powered by Watson’s incredible 124 not out off 71 balls.

Modi had flagged off the train, which runs between Varanasiand Delhi via Lucknow, on January 22. It started its thrice-a-week run on January 25.

On January 29, the first reports surfaced stating that toiletries and water taps had gone missing from Mahanama Express.

On Saturday, Dainik Bhaskar carried a photo feature of how passengers had turned it into a stinky mess in just seven days.

The photos showed overflowing sinks, dirty floors with leftover food, beer bottles and groundnut shells and broken equipment.

A British arms agent, Christian Michel, has accused PM Narendra Modi of proposing to exchange Italian marines for proof against Congress leader Sonia Gandhi in the AgustaWestland corruption scandal. Prime Minister Matteo Renzi in New York

    February 2, 2016, NewsCrunch

A British arms agent, Christian Michel, has accused PM Narendra Modi of proposing to exchange Italian marines for proof against Congress leader Sonia Gandhi in the AgustaWestland  corruption scandal.

The MEA dismissed the charge as ridiculous, said The Telegraph, which broke the story. But it is likely to create a political headache for Modi.

    Here's why.

    1) Christian Michel was the key adviser of AgustaWestland,  a subsidiary of the Italian firm Finmeccanica.

AgustaWestland had won a contract in 2010 to supply 12 choppers to India for Rs 3,600 crore. In 2013, Italian prosecutors accused Finmeccanica executives of paying bribes to Indian officials through Michel and another middleman, Ralph Haschke.

    2) Michel has alleged that Modi made the offer to swap marines for proof against Sonia at a secret meeting with Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi in New York in September 2015.

Modi allegedly told his Italian counterpart that he would help resolve the case against the two Italian marines in return for any proof to link Christian Michel to any member of the Gandhi family.

    3) On December 23, 2015, Michel wrote to the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) at The Hague making the allegation. A copy of the letter was also sent to the International Tribunal of the Law of the Seas, Hamburg.

    4) Here is the the real bad news for Modi.

The PCA which is dealing with marines case, is empowered to consider Michel's letter as valid deposition. If it does so, it can ascertain if the two prime ministers indeed met in New York and if there was any basis to the allegation.

It would be difficult for Modi and team to predict Italian response to these questions and that would give them a  hard time.

    4)  Michel's father Wolfgang Max Michel Richard, a British businessman, was said to be very active in India in the 1980s and 1990s, and was reportedly close to the Congress party.

    5) Michel who works in Dubai told The Telegraph: "I know these are serious allegations, but I stand by them."

He has even offered to divulge to PCA the sources, which gave him the information on the secret Modi-Renzi meeting.

Infosys is building the world’s tallest free-standing clock tower in its Mysore campus at a cost of about Rs 60 crore.

The news comes amidst reports that due to a slowdown in the hiring of freshers, the Mysorecampus is being underutilised.

The Economic Times reported that the proposed 135-metre clock tower, which will sport digital screens on all four sides, will take 20 months to complete.

It has been designed by Hafeez Contractor, the Mumbai architect who also designed Infosys' Mysuru campus.

Infosys built its 345-acre global education centre in Mysore at a cost of about Rs 1,700 crore. The campus, often described as the world’s largest corporate university, can train 15,000 trainees at any given time.

In 2013, Deccan Herald had quoted  an unnamed company source claiming that largest training facility in the campus, the GlobalEducationCenter (GEC II), was vacant due to the absence of new employees.

As the company had significant maintenance cost, including a monthly electricity bill of Rs 45 lakh, it wanted to monetise the centre by allowing employees of other firms to be trained.

Whatever the temporary fluctuations in hiring, everyone in the Indian IT industry agrees say the future lies in getting away from the business model that originated in body shopping.

As the shift unfolds, unless Infosys repurposes its Mysore campus, it may have to bear the burden of carrying along a white elephant.

The Economic Times suggested that clock tower was Infy founder Narayana Murthy’s brainchild.

It quoted him saying the Mysoretraining centre was "incomplete without a clock tower".

A report says Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma have called off their relationship.

India.com says Virat proposed and Anushka reportedly declined saying it was not the right time for her to get married.

If the report is true, it does come as a surprise. India.comstory is typical Bollywood-style reporting – written without attribution, offers nothing in support.

The lovebirds had been quite inseparable in the past and earlier reports said a marriage was on cards in 2016.

But Virat and Anushka have stopped making public appearances.

Anushka is not very busy professionally now, but was missing in the India team’s Australian tour. Virat was seen with Yuvraj and other boys watching Australian open.

Contrast this with the last year’s Wimbledonwhere Virat and Anushka went on a double date with Sachin Tendulkar and his wife Anjali.

Anushka’s most striking absence was felt at cricketer Rohit Sharma’s wedding last month. The who’s who of cricket and many Bollywood stars turned up with their partners. Dhoni and wife Sakhsi and even Yuvraj with fiancée Hazel.

Virat went alone and was seen dancing with Sonkashi Sinha.

Virat and Anushka were last seen in October and November. In October when they  went for  lunch with Anushka’s father and visited 'Omkar 1973' apartment complex in Worli, Mumbai, reportedly looking to make a purchase.

In November Virat and Anushka were spotted  in Goa. They have not been seen together since then.

Con couple Saritha Nair and Biju Radhakrishnan

    February 3, 2016, NewsCrunch

Con woman Saritha Nair’s stream of allegations against CM Oommen Chandy, his son, associates and few other ministers have rocked Kerala politics.

Ironically, the solar scam, which has engulfed the state’s  powerful politicians and bureaucrats, also marks the downfall of Kerala’s Bunty and Babli couple - Saritha and her former live-in partner Biju Radhakrishnan.

Saritha and in Biju have been accused of plotting several schemes to cheat doctors, NRIs, businessmen and builders.

He is an accused in 21 cheating cases across Kerala and she in 27.

Their most successful con has allegedly been in duping investors on the pretext of setting up solar and wind power units.

Their solar scam accelerated after Chandy came into power. The duo got close to his ministers and associates. Three officials close to Chandy have been suspended and many ministers face serious charges of helping the con couple.

The official aura helped the couple allegedly con gullible victims.

Recently, Saritha alleged that Chandy had received a bribe of Rs 1.9 crore. He had also asked her to set up a company in his son’s name, she alleged.

There is also reportedly a CD, which shows Saritha in compromising positions with top politicians and bureaucrats. The existence of the CD has been officially denied.

Here is the brief journey of con couple Saritha and Biju.

Saritha was born in a lower middle class a middle class family in Chengannur in central Kerala. She was bright in studies and passed her 10th standard in 1994 with distinction.

She did a diploma in electronics and communication and later another diploma in aircraft maintenance and engineering. But she would gravitate to a career in finance, for which she felt she had a natural talent.

As her father died young, Saritha had to shoulder the responsibility of supporting her family. She married an NRI when she was just 18, which did not last long.

Saritha got into share trading and started working for private finance companies. The allegations of fraud and financial misappropriation against her go to back to 2001.

In 2005, she was working for a noted private bank and was briefly jailed on a charge of financial misdemeanour. This was the time she came into contact with Biju who was also an employee of the same bank.

As he had also gone through prison for fraud, the duo got close and began their life of crime together.

They would set up bogus companies promising loans at cheaper rates or soliciting investors for fake projects. They impersonated a range of characters, from IAS officers to World bank officials, to con people.

The fake solar and wind power generating units they promised to investors was the pinnacle of their crime career. Though there are no definite estimates of how much they made in the scam, reports suggest it could be as high as Rs six crore.

When Saritha and Biju met, he was married and his wife had even complained to the police against her. After she died somewhat mysteriously in 2006 Saritha and Biju started living together.

In 2014 Biju was tried and found guilty of his wife’s murder and was sentenced to life imprisonment.

It was Saritha, who had complained that Biju had murdered his wife. Various politicians who were feeling the heat from the couple also applied pressure on police.

Saritha and Biju fell out on financial issues and also after he got close to actress Shalu Menon, whom he wanted to marry

Interestingly, both Saritha and Shalu testified as prosecution witness against him in the trial.

Last year, Saritha and Biju were sentenced to three years’ rigorous imprisonment by a Pathanamthitta court in one of the solar scam cases.

The judge found them guilty of forgery, cheating  and conspiracy. He also fined Biju Rs 75 lakh and Saritha Rs 45 lakh.

A Tanzanian student was allegedly stripped of her clothes and paraded naked in Bangalore on Sunday night, it has been alleged.

Earlier reports of the incident had only mentioned that girl had been assaulted along with two of her friends.

The incident occurred on Sunday night on the Hesarghatta road after a Sudanese student had hit three bikes and run over a woman killing her.

The enraged local crowd had thrashed him and also the Tanzanian student and her two friends, who were not related to the incident and just had the misfortune of passing by.

On Wednesday Deccan Chronicle reported an allegation the girl had been stripped after assault quoting Bosco Kaweesi, who describes himself as legal adviser to African Students in Bangalore.

Kaweesi said the desperate woman tried to get into a passing BMTC bus to escape but was thrown back to the crowd by the passengers. He also says the local police stood by watching without intervening and later refused to register a complaint.

Local hospitals also refused treatment, he alleges.

The allegations are serious and require a thorough probe. The local community has tense relations with African students who live in the area. That also needs to be addressed.

The News Minute has sourced a video which shows the burning Wagon R and an excited crowd checking passing vehicles.

An amateur video follows the dead snake of astounding size. It is found in chains indicating that it was probably alive when found.

Its head is bloodied, which further indicates that it met with a violent death.

The workers were reportedly using explosives to level the site to build a dam.
