Harbhajan, who is known for his ugly on-pitch confrontations, did something uncharacteristic. He calmed down fist and tried to pacify the younger man.

But Rayudu was in no mood to listen and walked off in a huff.

Niti Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant was slammed on social media after sharing a Facebook post critical of Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal.

He also plucked the post from a Facebook  page – India against presstitutes angering many journalists.

Presstitutes is a pejorative term used by BJP supporters to describe journalists critical of the party.

On Sunday night, Amitabh Kant posted a screen shot from India against presstitutes, which made fun of Delhi government’s odd-even scheme.

Though the screengrab was witty, it appeared partisan for a bureaucrat to share it. One of Modi’s favourite economic bureaucrat Amitabh Kant has been credited with the Make in Indiacampaign.

When The Economic Time’s Rohini Sigh tweeted noting that a government official was tweeting like this, Amitabh Kant retorted that he was not a bonded labourer and could find interesting things in life.

After others joined in, he repeated at least thrice that he had only found the post interesting; suggesting he had stopped short of endorsing it. To one tweet, an exasperated Amitabh Kant said  he had not taken any potshot at Kejriwal and added, “it was crazy” to accuse him of that.

As KKR inched towards victory in Bangalore on Monday against RCB, its captain Gautam Gambhir had a curious reaction.

As his team mates stood up to applaud a boundary from Suryakumar Yadav off left-arm spinner Tabraiz Shamsi in the 19th over, Gambhir was seen kicking his chair and muttering angry words.

The chair tumbled back and it required Piyush Chawla to set it back into its position.

The boundary sealed the win and KKR went on to net the match by 5 wickets. The victory was a huge relief as KKR looked like it was losing the match chasing an impressive RCB total of 186.

So, what explains Gambhir’s baffling response?

Though he scored 37, Gambhir struggled with the bat and was erroneously declared LBW by the umpire.

The game with RCB was personal as he and Virat Kohli share bad blood. He was so involved, he had not even removed his pads till the end of the match.

So, when victory looked close and inevitable all that pent up anger and tension surfaced.

Arvind Kejriwal’s tweet was tagged to fellow AAP leader Ashish Khetan, who had objected to Amitabh Kant’s tweet. Ashish Khetan  said as head of Niti Aayog, Amitabh Kant should be constructive and collaborative with State governments. “Are you dong justice to your job,” he asked.

As NewsCrunch had noted, Amitabh Kant tweeted sharing a Facebook post on Monday which had made fun of Arvind Kejriwal’s pet odd-even scheme.

The Facebook post said Arvind Kejriwal had conducted a survey on the odd-even scheme introduced by Arvind Kejriwal. The survey had interviewed Arvind Kejriwal who had given the scheme thumbs up.

The contention of the post was probably that Arvind Kejriwal was a megalomaniac, who was running a government without heeding anyone’s opinion except his own.

Amitabh Kant tweet had also drawn ire of journalists who had objected to him sharing posts by the Facebook page Indiaagainst presstitutes.

Amitabh Kant had defended his actions saying he had just found the post interesting. He was a career bureaucrat, not a bonded labourer, he had pointed out, suggesting that he had his freedom of expression.

While Rahul Kanwal of India Today stayed clear of all charges on Kangana Ranaut, Barkha Dutt of NDTV touched upon one of them tangentially.

May 3, 2016, NewsCrunch

Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut has denied the charge that she physically abused her ex-boy friend Adhyayan Suman.

NDTV and India Today simultaneously aired pre-recorded interviews of the actress, who is in the thick of a raging controversy.

The interviews looked like a concerted attempt to give her side of the story or undo the damage done to her image following leaks and revelations from HrithikRoshan and Adhyayan Suman.

But both the interviews were couched in generalities – gender equality in Bollywood, her choice of films, her journey from small town in Himachal Pradesh. They skipped all the accusations that have been hurled at  Kangana Ranaut, ranging from inflicting physical abuse to using black magic.

While Rahul Kanwal of India Today stayed clear of all charges, Barkha Dutt of NDTV touched upon one of them tangentially.

Kangana Ranaut said she had hit only one ex-boy friend with her stiletto, to defend herself as he had been abusive and had not got into physical fights with anyone else.

That was in one sentence dismissing all the charges made by Adhyayan Suman.

The unfortunate death of a young Faridabad-based journalist of DNA, Pooja Tiwari, is turning out to be controversial. She published a sting on a quack on April 1, who had claimed that many well-known doctors including a noted woman gynecologist were in collusion with him. Abortion and gender selection were among the specialist services he offered. After the report was published, the woman gynecologist and her husband filed an FIR alleging that Pooja Tiwari had tried to extort Rs 2 lakh from them for not publishing the report.

and publish them in in public interest.

May 4, 2016, NewsCrunch

The unfortunate death of a young Faridabad-based journalist of DNA, Pooja Tiwari, is turning out to be controversial.

She published a sting on a quack on April 1, who had claimed that many well-known doctors including a noted woman gynecologist were in collusion with him. Abortion and gender selection were among the specialist services he offered.

After the report was published, the  woman gynecologist and her husband filed an FIR alleging that Pooja Tiwari had tried to extort Rs 2 lakh from them for not publishing the report.

After her death, the doctor couple have been booked for abetting suicide, on a complaint lodged by Pooja Tiwari's father.

The issue is sensitive and yet to get serious media attention.

The Hindustan Times noted that Pooja Tiwari was facing an extortion charge and had been drinking the evening she jumped to her death. At the time of her death, there were two male friends in her flat, a police inspector and a journalist, it noted.

The report, abrupt and without  details, builds a damaging impression of of Pooja Tiwari.

Indian Express accessed an email written by Pooja Tiwari and reported that she was distraught that her name was being tarnished.

DNA placed Pooja Tiwari under suspension after the doctor couple made their charge. It chose not to report on her suicide but has kept the story link live suggesting it sees nothing wrong with what she published.

Newslaundry wrote a lengthy sympathetic piece asking to give Pooja Tiwari benefit of doubt till police and court completed their task. It also spoke about vulnerability of journalists and the obligation of newspaper managements to stand by them. DNA should explain its stance, it said.

It is for the police and the courts to go into the charges and counter-charges to establish the truth.

But in the interest of fair reporting it should be pointed out that the story filed by Pooja Tiwari was shoddy and made allegations without adequate proofs.

1) Pooja Tiwari writes that he quack mentions the name of the woman gynecologist. Good journalism required her to probe further to dig out enough evidence and publish them in in public interest. The word of a quack is not enough to cast aspersions.

2) Pooja Tiwari posted two videos of the sting operation. In these, the quack  is not seen mentioning the woman gynecologist anywhere.

3) There are other loopholes. The quack says he works at the government-owned BK hospital and carries out quackery on the side. In one of the videos she speaks to the chief medical officer of BK hospital. Did she verify the quack's claim? There is no information on that.

Pooja Tiwari was young and inexperienced. What were her editors doing?

A meeting of two unlikely friends Baba Ramdev and Lalu Prasad Yadav on Wednesday, before TV cameras,  produced delightfully hilarious moments.

Baba Ramdev, who is part of the ruling sangh parivaar, went to meet Lalu, a secular warrior, at his official residence in Patnacarrying two basks of Patanjali Ayurved products.

Before trying them, Lalu first gave a demonstration of a few yoga asanas he had learnt from Baba Ramdev.

He started with meditation – chanting an prolonged om closing both of his ears.

Then with some guidance from Baba Ramdev, he breathed heavily from both nostrils. He then blocked one nostril with middle finger and inhaled and exhaled. He then switched nostrils and repeated the exercise.

When asked if he agreed with Baba Ramdev’s politics, Lalu said he saw him as a yoga guru, who had revived an ancient tradition, which were getting lost.

Baba Ramdev invited Lalu to take part in the International Yoga Day on June 21 and Lalu agreed.

Then they focused on the Patanjali Ayurved products Baba Ramdev had gifted to Lalu.

Lalu held high a soap made of cow milk and said he had spoilt his skin till now by using all kinds of soap.

Baba Ramdev also pulled a gold or sona-kanthi cream and said other companies were selling it for Rs 10,000 till PA had brought down the price to Rs 399.

He applied it liberally to Lalu’s forehead and cheeks and asked journalists to see how it made his skin glow like a gold.

The bonhomie between Lalu and Baba Ramdev was hard to miss, which was surprising as both the leaders share a history of acrimony.

During Bihar polls Baba Ramdev had described Lalu as a son of Kans. On Tuesday, Lalu had sought a probe into Ramdev’s assets ,who was now selling ‘mustard oil’, he mocked.

But on Wednesday Lalu defended said Baba Ramdev saying he had made many enemies who were jealous of his success. He also described himself as a permanent ambassador of Patanjali Ayurved products.
