Virat Kohli took the lead but was soon overtaken by Chahal, who pounced upon de Villiers, knocking off his helmet and head-butting his chin hard.
 May 25, 2016, NewCrunch

Tense RCB players in the dug out provided a showstopping moment for cameras when they rushed out to hug de Villiers, who won the match for them singlehandedly.

It did not matter that they smashed his face, toppled the helmet and left a mark on his chin.

As the Abdulla and de Villiers pair ran for two and took the team to finals, RCB players leapt into the ground in an amazing symphony of adrenaline. Virat Kohli took the lead but was soon overtaken by Chahal, who pounced upon  de Villiers, knocking off his helmet and head-butting his chin hard.

He was followed by others including Kohli all of who jumped on de Villiers, American football style.

Ironically, it was clear that de Villiers was not enjoying energetic display of emotions. He was physically  exhausted and emotionally drained and on top had to carry a bruised chin for the rest of the night.

But as Gavaskar later pointed out it is the sweetest injury a player can suffer, when he is mobbed by his own teammates after an outstanding performance.

The RCB players had a reason to celebrate the way they did.

Chasing 159, they crashed to 29 for five till de Villiers hit 79 off 47 balls to script an improbable comeback. Defeating  Gujarat Lions by four wickets, RCB are now in finals of IPL 9.

How Arijit Singh 'insulted' Salman Khan at Star Guild awards and why a public apology may not wash (Watch video)

Singer Arijit Singh posted and deleted a public apology to Salman Khan begging him not to delete a song, sung by him, in Sultan. He refers to an episode in which Salman Khan felt he was insulted. Arijit Singh says he made repeated attempts to apologise but could never reach out to the star and hence had decided to post a public apology. Though Arijit Singh did not give details of the episode in his Facebook post, he was possibly referring to the encounter with Salman Khan and Ritesh Deshmukh, who hosted the Star Guild Awards function in 2014, the year he won the best male playback singer for the song Aashiqui 2 song tum hi ho.
Salman Khan & Riteish Deshmukh giving best male playback singer ward to Arijit Singh - the night Bhai felt slighted

May 25, 2016, NewsCrunch

As the video below shows, after reading out the list of nominees, Salman Khan and Ritesh Deshmukh announce the winner. Arijit Singh takes sometime to reach the stage and is looking haggard, prompting Salman Khan to ask if he was sleeping.

Arijit Singh, known for his quick repartee retorts, ''You guys put me to sleep,'' suggesting though in jest that their on-the-stage antics were a bit boring.

Salman Khan blames the sleepy mood on the song tum hi ho, which was playing in the background, and tries to sing it in off key. Arijit Singh suggests that is not the way it is sung and on request from Salman Khan goes on to tutor him. Salman Khan follows him though in off key, getting a few laughs from the audience.

Now, Salman Khan for all his macho aura is known to have a razor thin skin when it comes to his image. A public retort at a glittering ceremony before all his industry peers, including frenemy Shahrukh Khan, who is shown enjoying the proceedings, could  have upset him.

And as Vivek Oberoi will tell you, once Salman Khan gets upset no amount of cringing and grovelling will wash away your sin.

The Sultan song in question was shot in January featuring Salman Khan and Amit Sadh and had been sung much before that. It is not clear what made Salman Khan change his mind to delete it now.

May 25, 2016, NewsCrunch

For the first time, Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani has spoken about the Page 1 story of The Telegraph in which she was called an Aunty National.

In an interview with The Economic Times she says she was made fun of for saying Bharat mata ki jai.

Without naming the The Telegraph, she says, "It made for a fun headline for some editor who possibly thought that it's a great headline."

The Telegraph was responding to a dramatic speech made by Smriti Irani in Rajya Sabha on February 25.

On that day, Mayawati had demanded inclusion of a dalit member in the committee, which was probing Rohit Vemula's death.

Smriti Irani had responded dramatically saying she would cut off her head and leave it at Mayawat's feet if the BSP boss was not satisfied with her reply

The Telagraph's headline came with a tag line - Mother India, at your service and ready for the supreme sacrifice, here comes AUNTY NATIONAL

Later in the day, Smriti Irani delivered a furious speech at Lok Sabha, which went viral, giving her version on the Vemula controversy.

Smriti Irani told The Economic Times  the Lok Sabha speech was not planned, but came out forcefully after she saw Rahul Gandhi 'smirk' thinking that she had been cornered.

She says she saw Mr Gandhi smirk, with a "gotcha kind of a look on his face." And something in her snapped.

She felt that a boy had died and here was a man who was thinking that he had got 'one up on Smriti Irani'.

"I expect more of my colleagues in Parliament, irrespective of their political background,"adds Smriti Irani.

Richa Chadha, who has spent nearly a decade in Bollywood, has spoken about how the industry peer pressure drove her into an eating disorder.

When she was starting out, a male colleague commented that she was too skinny.

Young and impressionistic, she took the comment to heart and put on some weight.

The she panicked that she had gained too much and swung to the other extreme to lose weight.

She stayed away from food, started surviving on protein bars and Red Bulls. Each time she felt hungry, she felt guilty, she told Mumbai Mirror.

Last December she happened to see Asif Kapadia's Oscar winning documentary on Amy Winehouse who along with addiction had also battled bulimia.

Bulimia is an emotional disorder characterised by a distorted body image and an obsessive desire to lose weight. People suffering from this condition experience bouts of extreme overeating followed by fasting or self-induced vomiting.

The documentary was an eye opener and Richa Chadha, with the prodding of family and friends, sought expert help who gradually restored her normal diet along with workouts.

Richa Chadha says body shaming is an unwanted import from West and should be slammed.

Bollywood star Salman Khan has refused to react to raging controversy, which kicked off after singer Arijit Sing’s public apology.

Arijit  Singh apologised in a public Facebook post for having insulted Salman Khan at an awards function only to delete it quickly.

But the image of the post has gone viral and many have come out in support of Arijit Singh and even criticised him for ignoring his own stature in the industry to issue an apology that was not required.

Salman Khan has also been slammed for having a supersized ego and for being petty enough to get a Sultan song sung by Arijit Singh deleted.  Reports say 'Sultan' have producers have decided to replace Arijit's version with the one sung by Shadab Faridi.

But Salman Khan seems to be living up to his reputation that he neither forgets nor forgives. A spokesperson told Mumbai Mirror that there would be no official quote on the Facebook post as well. He also described it as a non-issue.

Off the record, Salman Khan’s coterie has been claiming that he had no hand in getting Arijit  Singh’s song deleted from Sultan. They also say Arijit  Singh has been pestering for an audience through continuous messages, which  Salman Khan has reportedly refused to grant.

But there are reports contradict these claims and say Salman Khan had got Arijit  Singh’s songs deleted from 'Kick' and 'Prem Ratan Dhan Payo' as well, notes The times of India.

A young prey is surrounded by them. Together they bring it down after a tough struggle and begin sink in their teeth into the hapless animal, which is has been brought down to the ground and completely overpowered.

Just then, another lioness enters the camera frame and tries to get a bite. The lioness in the original hunting pack rushes to chase her away and a fight breaks out. The other two lions reluctantly intervene leaving the buffalo alone.

The video shows the ‘woman’ arguing with police officers wearing just a bra. Her clothes can be seen strewn on the floor of the police station.  The officers manage to get her back into the clothes.

She can also be heard asking someone not to take a video, while an unidentified person seems to have done exactly the same.

The video has also been wrongly traced to a police station in Gujarat.

The Times of India reported on May 18 that a drunk transgender-woman had created a ruckus at a police station in Vasant Kunj.

The transgender-woman had quarrelled with an auto driver over the fare. The auto driver fled after she dialled 100.

She reached the police station demanding the arrest of the auto driver but was asked to wait for a woman officer to register her complaint.

That reportedly got the drunk transgender-woman so angry, she started stripping and heckling the police.

The police were scared of being accused of misbehaviour and did not dare to use force on her, says TOI.

The transgender-woman was later let off with a warning and an FIR was filed against the missing auto driver.

A popular media website has withdrawn a highly offensive article after a young police officer from Kerala Merin Joseph slammed it.

Click on the article giving a list of 10 most beautiful  IPS and IAS women officers, it fetches a 404 response.

One of the officers featured in the list, Merin Joseph wrote a Facebook post on Sunday harshly criticising it. She said women officers were doing a tough job in complex system, but were being reduced to their looks.

Taking on the patriarchal attitude behind the article she asked why a list of top 10 handsome male IAS and IPS officers was not there.

There is a reason Merin Joseph was quick to react; fighting sexist pigs is nothing new for her.

After she started her career in Kerala, several Facebook fan pages describing her looks surfaced. It became a standing joke among many Kerala men to post messages pleading Merin Joseph to arrest them.

The attention has also brought heightened scrutiny on her.

Last year she was photographed with actor Nivin Pauly at a college function. The photo went viral drawing criticism from fringe media publications which wrongly claimed that she had broken a protocol when she got herself photographed in uniform.

Merin Joseph had made a Facebook post at the time rebutting the charge.

A native of Thiruvanthapuram, Merin Joseph, passed the civil services examination in 2012 in her first attempt.

A BA Hons from Stephen’s, Delhi, Merin Joseph is the third Malayali woman IPS officer to get Kerala cadre after R. Sreelekha and B. Sandhya.

She is married to a Kottayam doctor, Chris Abraham.

Mamata Banerjee seems to be the first leader to invoke both Ishwar and Allah in the same oath.

May 27, 2016, NewsCrunch

Mamata Banerjee took oath on Friday as the chief minister of West Bengal in the name of Ishwar and Allah.

The oath was administered by the state governor and senior BJP leader Keshari Nath Tripathi.

The Indian constituent allows officials to take oath in the name of any religion.  In 2014, Modi took oath name in the name of Ishwar.

In 2011, Jharkhand governor Syed Ahmad had taken oath in the name of "Allah". When a petition had challengedit, the Supreme Court  had thrown it out saying god was formless and could not be confined to any religion or name.

Mamata Banerjee seems to be the first leader to invoke both Ishwar and Allah in the same oath.

By invoking both Ishwar and Allah, Mamata Banerjee was acknowledging the importance of both Hindu and Muslim vote banks in West Bengal.

At 25% of the population, Muslim support is crucial. The fragmented Hindu vote bank is being consolidated by a BJP in ascendance, putting a new pressure on Mamata Banerjee to appeal to them.

She is likely to walk a tight rope, taking care not to antagonise either. Mamata Banerjee has said she is willing to work with the central government on issues such as GST, while firmly staying rooted in the secular camp.

Her swearing in ceremony was attended mostly by leaders opposed to Modi - Akhilesh Yadav, Nitish Kumar, Lalu Prasad, Farooq Abdullah and Kanimozhi.

Arun Jaitley was the lone BJP leader in attendance.

The Narendra Modi government is spending Rs 103 crores of the  the taxpayers money for its second anniversary celebrations.

This is just a 10th  of the amount projected by Delhi CM Kejriwal, who had put the number at Rs 1,000 crore.

The Telegraph reports that Rs 85 crore would be spent on radio and television ads and Rs 18 crore on newspaper ads to highlight the government's major achievement.

The money would be spent over a week-long campaign, which is already underway, and is being routed through the Directorate of Audio-visual Publicity.

However, this amount does not include the expenses involved in hosting six mega events at India Gate, New Delhi, and five state capitals on Sunday.

The amount paid to Geometry Global Encompass Network, an event management company, to organise these spectacular shows, has not been disclosed.

An official of the Geometry Global told the Telegraph that he had been told not to talk about the event at all.
