Pakistan-origin singer Adnan Sami became an Indian national after receiving a citizenship certificate from Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju at North Block on Friday.
NewsCrunch had noted in October that the Attorney General has recommended granting him citizenship due to his distinguished service to the cause of art.
Adnan Sami, who came to India in 2001, has been getting his one-year visa renewed. His long-pending request for Indian citizenship gained urgency after Pakistan declined to renew his passport this year.
