Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg called Paytm founder Vijay Shekhar Sharma recently to request him to tone down his opposition to Free basics.
But Vijay, who has emerged as a fierce critic of Free Basics, gave Zuckerberg a piece of his mind.
"He was trying to tell me that I should talk less about this thing,” he reportedly said about his conversation with Zuckerberg.
But Vijay bluntly responded saying Zuckerberg did not know about the (Indian) telecom operators, who would block everyone who came in their way.
“They have their own messenger apps, music streaming apps which are paid for services. They want to do these businesses," he added, according to Business Insider.
Vijay Shekhar Sharma is also the founder of One 97, the parent company of Paytm.
One 97 spent a lot of time trying to provide value added services in telecom space. So, Vijay fully knew what he was talking about on the business acumen of Indian telcos.
Vijay sums up his opposition to Free Basics in one sentence: Internet should be neutral. Every other view is a hogwash.
