An attempt by volunteers and forest staff to rescue a stranded leopard at a village near Ballarpur of Chandrapur district of Maharashtra went haywire.
But a video, which captures the dramatic events, has gone viral.
The leopard had entered a cow-shed and the villagers informed wildlife activist Bandu Dhotre, an expert in animal rescue operations.
Bandu Dhotre and forest officials climbed the roof of the cowshed and made an opening to tranquilise the leopard. Little did they expect the leopard to scramble up to escape through the gap.
Bandu Dhotre and other forest officials managed to escape to safety, but there was panic all around as the leopard ran helter-skelter.
The leopard was later cornered at a nearby spot and captured.
