After Aamir Khan was removed as Brand Ambassador of Incredible India campaign, Union Tourism Minister Mahesh Sharma tried to be diplomatic and said the contract with the actor had expired.
But another senior government official, Secretary of Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP), Amitabh Kant, has been more candid.
He says Aamir Khan damaged Brand India with his remarks on intolerance.
Replying to a question at an event in Ahmedabad, Kant said, tourists will increase only if the brand ambassador promotes the country as Incredible India.
"If the brand ambassador says India is intolerant, he is damaging the brand identity of the country. People will not come to India after hearing him, he added," reports The Times of India.
Kant was in the city as the chief guest of the 36th convocation of National Institute of Design (NID).
