The famed Silk Road Ensemble led by acclaimed cellist Yo-Yo Ma performed a joyful rendition of Raj Kapoor's evergreen hit Mera Joota Hai Japani at Davos this week.
The energetic interplay of traditional instruments, ranging from a cello to a tabla, moved the audience to give the Ensemble a standing ovation.
The over one-hour long show, which brought live music from different countries, was part of an official World Economic Forum programme, Musical Perspectives on Global Cultures.
Yo-Yo Ma has brought together musicians from over 20 countries for the Silk Road Ensemble, which promotes cross-cultural music. The group has recorded six albums and its new album, Sing Me Home, is due for release in April 2016.
In the Mera Joota Hai Japani performance, Yo-Yo Ma was joined by Sérgio and Odair Assad (Brazil), Sandeep Das (India), Johnny Gandelsman (USA), Cristina Pato (Spain), Kathryn Stott (UK) and Wu Tong (China).
