A rescue team found Lance Naik Hanumanthappa alive but in critical stage six days after an avalanche buried an Indian Army post at Siachen.
Hanumanthappa was found 25 feet under ice and there are unlikely to be any more survivors in the
terrain marked by a numbing temperature of minus 45 degrees.
Hanumanthappa, from Karnataka, has been shifted to the RR Hospital.
Five bodies have been recovered and Indian soldiers are on an expedition to find the remains of all other martyrs.
Ten soldiers of Madras Regiment were buried after their post was hit by the avalanche at the altitude of 19,600 feet close to the Line of Control (LoC) last week.
A rescue video posted on YouTube by Peace Warrior conveys the excitement of the rescue team after finding Hanumanthappa. They are seen extricating him gently and shouting for blankets.
It is not clear how the video of the rescue that happened on Monday reached social media so quickly. But the account Peace Warrior, which has a few other military-related videos as well, must have it from Army sources.
