Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi received a rapturous welcome in JNU by students not affiliated to ABVP.

Though he spoke into a mike, the loud cheers drowned most of what he said.

Rahul Gandhi said those branding students seditious themselves were anti-national and urged students not to get bullied.

He had gone there not only to speak but also to listen - he sat through to the speeches, next to the Left leaders.

To get there, Rahul Gandhi had to brave heckling by ABVP activists, who waved black flags at him and tried to block his car.

He also took immense political courage to overrule fellow Congress men, who were sitting on the fence, and come out in support of JNU students, notes The Telegraph.

This was well appreciated by the students, who were under siege and getting branded as anti-nationals.

The Rahul Gandhi show at JNU was also in stark contrast with his past performance, when he had gone missing during major agitations, which had rocked UPA 2.
