JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar told a team of lawyers sent by the Supreme Court that police failed to catch the man who attacked him at the Patiala Court.

As he was brought to the court, Kanhaiya Kumar said, he was punched, kicked and thrown to the ground by a group of men dressed as lawyers.

Inside the court room, he pointed at an attacker who was sitting with other visitors. The policemen went over to him and asked for his identity. He countered them and asked for their I-cards instead. The police did nothing to him, says Kanhaiya Kumar.

The video of his testimony, which was filmed by the Supreme Court team of lawyers, was accessed by IBN Live. In the four-minute long clip, a sombre looking Kanhaiya Kumar describes in detail how the men in black were waiting to pounce upon him and how he and the cops escorting him were thrashed.

He speaks about being described as an "anti-national" by a section of the media. "I am citizen of this country, a PhD student, I study in JNU - and they are calling me a traitor," he said.

The JNU student union leader was arrested for sedition after a campus event in which "anti-national" slogans were raised.

He was attacked by when he was brought to Patialacourt, which also saw journalists and JNU teachers being assaulted. The Supreme Court had rushed a team of senior lawyers to the court to file a spot report.
