As the Ishrat Jahan controversy blew up again, Times Now pulled off a scoop. It interviewed former
Home Ministry official R V S Mani, who made stunning claims.
Mani, former Under Secretary, Internal Security, had filed the two affidavits on Ishrat Jahan case under UPA - the first one identifying her as a terrorist and the second contradicting the first.
Speaking to Times Now he said he was used as a rubber stamp and was also tortured by SIT chief Satish Verma. The SIT chief burnt me with cigarette stubs. I was chased by a CBI officer," he said.
It turns out that Indian Express had spoken to RVS Mani and recorded all his statements in a series of articles in 2013 and 2014.
It tweeted on Tuesday stating it had reported two years ago what was breaking new on Times Now. As former Express editor Shekar Gupta pointed out great journalism has repeat value.
Breaking on @TimesNow today, five stories on R V S Mani that @IndianExpress covered in 2013-14 https://t.co/yWuZqtcM31— The Indian Express (@IndianExpress) March 1, 2016
This is a fine reminder that great journalism has repeat value 3 years later. Even if we didn't scream our heads off https://t.co/WraSg8y29h— Shekhar Gupta (@ShekharGupta) March 1, 2016
