Kuldeep Varshney, a leader of the BJP's youth wing, announced a Rs 5 lakh prize to cut off the tongue of Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union president Kanhaiya Kumar.
Varshney, Bhartiya Janta Yuva Morcha (BJYM) district chief in Uttar Pradesh's Badaun, was upset about the speech Kanhaiya had made in JNU after his release from Jail on Thursday.
Varshney said Kanhaiya had insulted RSS, BJP, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his speech. As he "could not tolerate" his comments, Varshney said he was announcing the prize to cut off Kanhaiya’s tongue.
BJP moved in quickly to contain the fallout of the controversial statement and expelled Varshney from primary membership of the party for six years.
The president of Badaun district’s BJP unit, Harish Shakya, said the party had nothing to do with Varshnay's controversial statement.
Shakya said Varshnay had been expelled for giving a statement without the consent of party office bearers, reports PTI.
