Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad made a provocative speech on Saturday comparing RSS, the ideological mentor of Modi government, to ISIS, the terror organisation.
Taking part in the 'National Integration Conference' organised by Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, Azad addressed a huge gathering, and said Muslims should oppose both ISIS and RSS.
He expressed concern that a few Muslims were getting entangled with ISIS and said the community should oppose organisations like ISIS, the way it opposed RSS.
"If those among us, in Islam, too do wrong things, they are no way less than RSS," he added.
Azad's point was that communalism of all types, whether by Hindus, Muslims or Sikhs, was a threat to the world and the country."
But his comparison of ISIS and RSS drew a quick reaction from the sangh parivaar. An RSS spokesperson from Nagpur disagreed with the comparison an said it showed the intellectual bankruptcy of Azad.
