A third year engineering student, Sankar, was hacked to death by three men, who came on a motorbike on Sunday, in a suspected case of honour killing.
The murder, which occurred at a busy traffic junction in Udumalaipettai town of Tirupur district, has been caught on a CCTV camera.
Sankar, a dalit, had married a girl from an upper caste against the wishes of her parents. The girl, who was studying in the same college, had dropped out and begun to work to support him.
On Sunday, they came under attack when they were on their way to buy groceries.
The CCTV footage, which has been posted by NewsMinute shows the couple waiting to cross the road, at a busy traffic junction. Three men come on bike and attack both of them.
While Sankar died on the spot, his wife has been admitted to a hospital with multiple injuries.
Sankar's family say the girl's family had not reconciled to the marriage. The police have formed a team to nab the culprits.
