Swarajya writer Shefali Vaidya has adopted Eagle’s celebrated song, Hotel California, taking a gentle dig at JNU.
She published the spoof lyrics on her Facebook account on Thursday creating an instant buzz in the right-wing circles, which are usually starved of humour.
Hotel JNU – The shock Ballad is faithful to the original lyrics of the Hotel California, written in 1976. With smart twists and turns of the phrases, Shefali Vaidya has managed to turn it into a satirical nationalistic response to what is seen as the hot bed of sedition.
The meaning of Hotel California’s lines, which invokes of imageries flowing out of a drug-fuelled frenzy, are still debated.
But Hotel JNU makes its intentions clear: it is an ode to Commie academic Hell from where no one ever leaves.
After Shefali Vaidya released Hotel JNU lyrics, Swarajya Mag announced a contest challenging its readers to send its audio or video renditions, promising a prize of Rs 15,000 for the best effort.
