After reaching 50, a knock which assured victory for India, Virat Kohli bowed and pointed his bat towards Sachin Tendulkar in the special VIP box.
The gesture went down well with the record crowd, which broke into a wild applause.
After the match, Virat Kohli told Harsha Bhogle that he had started playing cricket watching Sachin and also because of him.
"As a child I have seen him do that for India and now I have the opportunity to do that in front of him. So, it’s a feeling that is not describable,” he added.
Late in the night Sachin posted on Facebook congratulating Team India and thanking Virat Kohli for his gesture.
