Twenty-five students and two faculty members of Hyderabad Central University have been arrested for allegedly ransacking of Vice Chancellor residence and pelting stones at police.
The students have been protesting HCU vice-chancellor Appa Rao Podile resuming charge after going on a two-month leave in the wake of suicide by Rohit Vemula on January 17.
Students form chains to thwart the police, who manage to break them up. As girl students try to pull back the boys from the police, women constables are brought in to tackle them.
A PTI report said the dining halls at HCU have been shut as non-teaching staff have gone on strike supporting the VC. Students have reportedly resorted to cooking in the open area.
An NSUI leader told PTI that officials have cut of water to the campus.
