Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu was left red-faced early this month when his office mixed mistook TMC MP Mamata Thakur for West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee.
Indian Express has an exclusive on the delicious mix up, which has so many twists and turns, it can fuel a top class Bollywood film.
It all started when Mamata Thakur’s private secretary Tapan Roy called Suresh Prabhu’s office for an appointment. She had a couple of issues, which are routine for the Railway Minister, and should have taken five minutes of his time.
But here is where the mix up started. Mamata Bannerjee’s long-time private secretary is also Tapan Roy and so the Railway Minister got excited that his predecessor was coming.

But just before the meeting someone thought it wise to check with the West Bengal CM’s office and the mix up came to light – it was Mamata Thakur not Banerjee, who was on the way.
Any Bollywood film would be proud to have what happened after that - a cancelled lunch and a very angry Suresh Prabhu who shifted some personnel from his office, including his private secretary.
Mamata Thakur’s private secretary has been now instructed to introduce himself as Tapan Roy Junior when he makes official calls on behalf of his MP.
