PM Modi visited TCS' all women BPO in the heart of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Sunday.

He was given a roaring reception  by Indian women employees of the BPO, who chanted Modi, Modi and Bharat Mata ki Jai.

The women were all clad in abaya, a mandated dress code by Saudi Arabian law for expat women workers, which covers the entire body, head and hair, but leaves open the face to be visible.

Modi waved at them and went on to tour the facility.

TCS set up the all-women BPO in 2014 with Saudi Aramco and GE as clients. The unit employs  1,000 women, including a strong contingent of Indian expats, and plans to scale up the workforce to  3,000.

Setting up an all-women BPO has been a challenge as Saudi Arabian laws prohibit women from driving and mixing with men who are not relatives.

The Economic Times reports that TCS has to ensure that even support staff including janitors and electricians in the office are women.

When the services of a man are required, announcements are made to allow women employees put on their abayas and niqabs  or leave the room.
