The last days of TV star Pratyusha Banerjee were more traumatic than thought till now as a report states that she had been pregnant and undergone an abortion a few days before she hanged herself.
The popular Balika Vadu star had hanged herself on April 2 at her Mumbai flat.
Quoting JJ Hospital doctors The Times of India reports that there was evidence of a premature death of the foetal cell in her utetrus, which is an indication of medical termination of pregnancy.
The doctors said the pregnancy and the following abortion may have occurred in the month that preceded her suicide.
The newspaper also cited expert opinion saying it would be tough to establish the paternity of the child as the tissues that could supported a DNA test had been removed.
The report adds a twist to the case as Pratyusha's boyfriend and live-in partner Rahul Raj Singh's bail hearing is scheduled to come up soon.
Mumbai police have booked Rahul Raj Singh under sections 306 (abetment of suicide), 504 and 506 (criminal intimidation) and 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) in connection with Pratyusha's death following an FIR lodged by her parents — Soma and Shankar Banerjee.
A Mumbai sessions court rejected Rahul’s petition for anticipatory bail on 7 April. But on 12 April, the Mumbai High Court had granted him interim relief asking the police not to arrest him for at least a week.
In his anticipatory bail application, Rahul had claimed that Pratyusha's parents had been influenced by certain people to file the FIR against him. He also pointed out that Pratyusha had not left behind any suicide note and also that there had been no marks on her body, other than the ligature wound.
The ‘relief’ granted by the HC to Rahul ended on Monday and his bail plea may soon come up for a hearing.
