He had gone there to see of his JD(S) supporters, who were taking a train to Delhi, to take part in a rally.

JD(S) sources told Mid Day that Deve Gowda had been suffering from gastroenteritis and leg ailments and was unable to walk. So, the railways had granted permission, according to rules, to let him drive up to the platform.

The newspaper also quoted Akhil Agarwal, the divisional railway manager (DRM), saying he was not sure if Deve Gowda really required the special arrangement.
