RIP: Finolex founder PP Chhabria dropped out of school at 12, worked as a truck cleaner

The founder of Rs 10,000 crore Finolex, PP Chhabria, who passed away on Thursday, survived a tumultuous journey in life.   In a span of 86 years, Prahlad Parsram Chhabria, went from riches to rags and then bounced back impressively, notes Pune Mirror.   PP Chhabria was born into a wealthy business family of Karachi on March 12, 1930.

The founder of the Finolex Group, PP Chhabria, who passed away on Thursday, survived a tumultuous journey in life.

In a span of 86 years, Prahlad Parsram Chhabria, went from riches to rags and then bounced back impressively, notes Pune Mirror.

PP Chhabria was born into a wealthy business family of Karachi on March 12, 1930.

But when he was very young, the family lost all its money. He dropped out of school at 12 and was forced into menial jobs to survive.

He worked as a helper in a cloth store, where he even washed the shop owner's lunch utensils. Then he worked as a truck cleaner for sometime before shifting to Pune at the age of 15 in 1945 to live with relatives and help them out in their home and business.

Partition forced his mother and brothers to flee Karachi and join him in Pune.

They started a small business of their own, bringing electrical goods from Bombay and supplying to local shopkeepers.

It was this fledgling business that grew to the Rs 10,000 crore Finolex Group,
