Kanubhai Gandhi, the kid in the iconic photo of Mahatma being led by his grandson, holding his walking stick, has inexplicably fallen into bad times.

Kanubhai Ramdas Gandhi,87, along with his wife Dr. Shiva Laxmi, 85,  have sought refuge at an old age home,  Guru Vishram Vridh Ashram, in New Delhi.

Both highly qualified professionals, had settled in the US for over forty decades. In their old age, they returned to India and reportedly spent time in different ashrams before landing at this old age home.

The couple have no children.

The Hindu reports that the couple are mum on the circumstances which drove them to distress.
Kanubhai is quoted saying he has become homeless, to which his wife, still gritty, objects to and says they are in a hole, but will climb out of it.

Dr. Shiva Laxmi says had it been the US she would have managed better but is finding it tough to navigate in India.

There is a speculation that someone may have conned them out of their savings and thrown them out.

Kanubhai is one of the three children of Mahatma Gandhi's third son, Ramdas. After Mahatma's assassination he went to MIT to study mathematics and later worked at Nasa and the US defence department.

Dr. Shiva Laxmi, a Ph.D in biochemistry, taught and worked as a researcher in Boston.
