A photo started circulating last month showing Congress general secretary Digvijaya Singh in VHP office at R K Puram, New Delhi, along with a senior Hindutva leader Champat Rai.
Curiously, was also seen posing for camera, holding a book, an autobiography of the late VHP world president Ashok Singhal.
Given that Digvijaya Singh has made a career of baiting Hindutva groups, there was a question on a many lip: what was happening? Was Congress getting ready for one more round of soft Hindutva, a formula it has tried in the past, many a time, without success.
After nearly a fortnight's speculation, here is an explanation from Digvijaya Singh himself, as he told Coomi Kapoor of Indian Express.
He was on a train to Delhi and found himself next to a VHP leader and both struck a conversation. At the New Delhi Railway station, Digvijaya Singh offered to give the VHP leader a lift, who in turn invited him for some tea at the R K Puram office.
Digvijaya Singh accepted the invite, had tea, received a book and even learned that VHP was not very happy with Modi.
Digvijaya Singh surprisingly visited VHP office. Shri Champat Rai gifted him Biography of Late Ashok Singhal ji. pic.twitter.com/Nbg9iX0ZEU— RSS (@RSS_Org) April 28, 2016
