It is rare for a super hit movie to get a sequel after a decade and the honour goes to Kannada movie Mungaru Male.
The teaser of Mungaru Male 2 released on Saturday has gone viral clocking 1.1 lakh views.
The rain drenched doomed love story of Preetham took Kannada cinema by storm in 2006 and ran in a multiplex for a year. The film was so perfect, its acclaimed director Yograj Bhat wisely refrained from making a sequel.
Shashank has stepped in to take up the challenge and Ganesh, desperate for another break, seems to have agreed for the sequel. So, the big question, can the Mungaru Male 2 re-create the heartache of the prequel.
It seems to take off where the story had stopped. Preetham is shown pining for the lost lady love with a bottle in hand. There seem to be two heroines Aindrita Ray and Neha Shetty. And travel-time romance to blossom a la Dilwale Duniya Le Jayenge.
The prequel was a word of mouth success. It was the Mano Murthy’s music which got the movie buzzing. He is replaced by Arjun Janya. Bafflingly, the teaser plays an English number in the background through out.
The second element of success was the rain and the breathtaking locales in Coorg – now there is some rain, some desert sun and lots of snow. Foreign locales and big budget is in.
Then there was Ananth Nag whose crackling chemistry with Ganesh made the movie move. Let say Ravichandran a poor substitute for Ananth Nag.
