Senior journalist Prabhu Chawla made a baffling comparison between Modi and Donald Trump on Twitter on Tuesday night calling both of them victims of class bias and elitism. He added: "But both his mind and heart are at the right place."
The second sentence has the effect of absolving one and trashing another, and we are not sure between Modi and Trump, who is better off from the comparison.
The muddled tweet probably came from Senior journalist Prabhu Chawla himself, who was perhaps operating without the benefit of a customary sub-editor.
But the tweet was off the mark in many ways; calling Trump a victim of class bias was baffling, unless Senior journalist Prabhu Chawla was voicing the stereotype that all critques of right-wingers are from the privileged class.
Needless to say, there were many, especially Modi supporters, who did not like the comparison at all. Here is their response.
