PM Modi's supporters are upset with Aaj Tak after it tried to contrast his interview by Arnab Goswami with the one Karan Thapar had carried out in 2007 for his The Devil's Advocate programme.
Aaj Tak posted a tweet on Tuesday with two images - one with Arnab Goswami interviewing Modi, which was captioned when interviewed by chamchas. The one carrying snapshots of Modi during Karan Thapar show was captioned, when interviewed by a journalist.
After Modi supporters pulled it up, Aaj Tak apologisied saying the tweet was meant to be posted by a personal handle and was by mistake posted officially.
In the 2007 interview, Karan Thapar had Modi, then the Guajarat CM, on the back foot. Modi's office later claimed that he had promised not to ask any question on the 2002 riots.
But Karan Thapar reportedly landed with a list of 45 questions only on the riots, which haunted Modi for a long time.
Unable to face the onslaught of questions made in Karan Thapar's characteristic combative style, Modi had sipped water, sweated a little and then walked off, terminating the interview abruptly.
The 2007 interview is often cited as the reason why Modi does not like to engage media in a freewheeling conversation.
