In an hour long operation on Saturday Indian Coast Guard rescued 10 villagers in Valsad district, who had been stranded in the rising waters of Damanganga river.
A search party from Borikachi had set out to look for the body of an individual, who had drowned in the Damanganga river, say media reports.
They were stranded as the river water rose suddenly due to release from a nearby dam, prompting other villagers in the vicinity to call the local administration, which in turn placed a call to Coast Guard station in Daman at about 4.30 pm.
The station pressed the Coast Guard Chetak helicopter into service, whose pilot deftly manoeuvred the vehicle in the face of strong wind and stormy weather.
All 10 men were winched up one by one and moved to safety, reports The Indian Express.
