A video grab of Maharashtra police action against agitating FTII students (video below) |
On Tuesday midnight Maharashtra police arrested five students of Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) from the campus.
A total of 17 students, including three girls have been booked for rioting, damaging properties and other charges.
The students, who allegedly vandalised office furniture, were protesting a new policy on assessing the projects of the 2008 batch.
The police said they arrested FTII students following a complaint from Prashant Pathrabe.
A video shot on the mobile camera on Monday shows that the temperature was running high.
The students are seen protesting peacefully but vociferously. A policeman in a yellow shirt picks on a student in blue t-shirt and shoves him violently. The student caught unguarded is thrown for a distance, hits the wall and falls on a chair.
The police action follows the 72 day old agitation of FTII students, who are opposing the appointment of BJP member and TV actor Gajendra Chauhan as FTII chairman.
