Industrialist Gautam Adani has for the first time responded to the long-standing controversy on Modi hopping around the country in an Adani plane, while campaigning for the 2014 parliamentary polls.
Gautam Adani has said that Modi paid for these flights. The Adani group has four planes, nobody flies them for free and anyone is free to hire them, he told The Economic Times.
During the campaigning for the 2014 polls, it was common to see Modi getting off a plane, carrying the name Adani in bold letters, at the rallies.
Modi reportedly addressed 437 rallies covering an estimated 3 lakh kilometres and several photos of him travelling in Adani plane had surfaced. That prompted many, including Congress to allege that, Modi was too close for comfort to Gautam Adani, a Gujarat-based industrialist.
Gautam Adani pointed out that Congress also used aircraft belonging to the GMR Group.
"Doesn't Congress use GMR aircraft on a commercial basis too? Why isn't anyone talking
about this? Why only Modi? He is not taking Adani aircraft for free," Adani told Teh Economic Times.
