Rahul Gandhi said people in the villages had begun to chant Arhar Modi, Arhar Modi, thanks to a steep rise in the price of essential commodities.
Lentil or arhar, a critical ingredient in Indian cooking, has reached Rs 200 a kg.
In his speech on inflation, Rahul Gandhi tried to tap into the popular anger on inflation.
"All across villages, a new slogan is ringing out- Arhar Modi," he said.
