With the completion of a short stretch on Sunday, the India–Myanmar–Thailand Trilateral Highwaynow lets you drive from Manipur to Thailand in less than 24 hours.
The Trilateral Highwaybecame a real idea on Sunday when Mynamar completed a 25.6-km-long stretch, which reduced the travel time between Thinggan Nyenaung and Kawkareik, from three hours to 45 minutes.
The landmark was considered important enough for the Myanmar Vice President and Thai Deputy Prime Minister to attend the inaugural ceremony.
The 3,200 km long Trilateral Highway connects Moreh, India to Mae Sot, Thailand.
The distance between Moreh and Mandalay, a historic and business centre in Myanmar, is 893 km, which is about a 11-hour drive.
From Mandalay to Mae Sot in Western Thailand the distance is 474.2 km, an estimated seven-hour drive.
Mae Sot, a trade hub, is 500 km away from
Bangkok, another six hour drive.
So, if you leave Moreh at 6 pm tonight and drive continuously without waiting for the visa formalities, tomorrow same time you should be in Bangkok. All of the above estimates are based on Google maps and you can expect some variation.
The Trilateral Highwaybrings India, Myanmar and Thailand closer and is expected to help North-East fulfill its growth potential.
