A 11-minute long video from Scoopwhoop throws light on the illegal gun trade in North India especially Uttar Pradesh.

It speaks to the buyers, one of them a woman, and the people who make them.

Illegal gun buyers shown in the video seek security from wild animals and criminals. As one of them says thieves don’t touch your house if they know you keep a gun. But it also makes criminals more effective and menacing.

The illegal guns are available for just Rs 5,000, way cheaper than the legal weapons which cost lakhs. They may not work well all the time, may backfire or may kill only when used at close quarters.

But they are available easily – which means their number keeps growing.

Indiahas 40 million firearms, of which only 5.5 million are licensed. This means the country has the second-highest number of guns in the world, only after the US.
