Video: Watch hero policeman Manoj Barahate jumping from 20-feet Nashik bridge to save drowning man during Kumbhmela

A policeman Manoj Barahate, who was on duty at Kumbhmela in Nashik, jumped from a 20-feet tall Amardham bridge to successfully save a drowning man.  A video, which captures Manoj Barahate’s bravery, shows a middle-aged man in white shirt moving dangerously close to the edge of the bridge. He tries to cross over the iron railings to jump into the water to end his life.

A policeman Manoj Barahate, who was on duty at Kumbhmela in Nashik, jumped from a 20-feet tall Amardham bridge to successfully save a drowning man.

A video, which captures Manoj Barahate’s bravery, shows a middle-aged man in white shirt moving dangerously close to the edge of the bridge. He tries to cross over the iron railings to jump into the water to end his life.

A police team, which is on patrol tries to pull him back, but he escapes their grip and falls into the water flowing below.

The video shows policemen and onlookers running in confusion. Some of them dash to the across the bridge to get to the water blow.

In comes Manoj Barahate, who quickly removes his wallet and mobile phone, and jumps into the water below.  

His action was caught on camera and was widely appreciated. Nashik’s Municipal Commissioner Praveen Gedam tweeted about his bravery and shared his photo.

Praveen Gedam also noted that policemen were doing an outstanding job helping pilgrims at the Kumbhmela. Many of the were standing in the water for hours forming a human chain to prevent pilgrims from straying too far into the water, he noted.

Manoj Barahate's bravery is similar to the incident in which Punjab DSP Gurmit Singh Kingra jumped into Bathinda canal to save teachers after lathi charging them.
