Google remembered the birth centenary of painter M F Hussain, by doing a doodle with his favourite colours and portrait.
Many in India had forgotten the important date of the country's most famous modern artist, who died in exile, hounded by right-wing activists. Google also called him the Picasso of India.
The search engine's invocation of M F Hussain overlooking other key events of the day, P M Modi's own birthday and Ganesh Chaturthi, did not go down well with bhakts.
They see M F Hussain as a painter, who offended Hindus by painting their deities in the nude. The constant and vicious persecution forced him to shift to United Kingdom and Qatar.
Towards the end of his days, M F Hussain also accepted Qatar's citizenship.
He was born in Pandharpur, Maharashtra, September 17, 1915 to Zunaib and Fida. He came to Mumbai to paint film posters but went on to strike fame and fortune as a painter.
Here is how ardent bhakts slammed Goggle for celebrating M F Hussain.

A person who denounced Indian citizenship and took on Qatari nationality should not be celebrated in India. #MFHussain— Nitin Mahajan (@NitinMahajan99) September 17, 2015
