The temple, which Mark Zuckerberg visited after a suggestion from Steve jobs, could probably have been Hanuman Mandir and Ashram, at Kainchi, Nainital.

Set up by Neem Karoli Baba, whom Steve Jobs had accepted as his guru, Kainchi’s Hanuman Mandir and Ashram continue to be popular with Indian and Western devotees.

While speaking at the town hall meeting along with Indian PM Modi, Zuckerberg had said on Sunday that he had visited an Indian temple when he was going through a rough patch during the early phase of his company.

His mentor Steve Jobs had suggested that he visit a temple in India to connect to his company’s mission. Steve Jobs himself had visited the temple when he was barely past his teen years.

Zuckerberg unfortunately did not disclose, which temple he had visited.

The public record on Steve Jobs’ India trip, indicates that the temple in question was probably Kainchi Hanuman Mandir.

An Uttrakhand tourism brochure says Steve Jobs had visited the Mandir and even got the vision to create Apple there.

During his hippy years Steve Jobs came to India to meet Baba Neem Karoli, considered a reincarnation of Lord Hanuman. But by the time Steve Jobs arrived at the Kainchi
Ashram in 1974, Neem Karoli Baba had passed away.

There is also a possibility that Steve Jobs, who travelled widely in India and went up to Tibet, may have recommended some other temple, but left no public account of it.

However, India disappointed Steve Jobs. Troubled by lice, scabies, dysentery and a near mob thrashing, he returned disappointed, notes The Economic Times .

Neem Karoli Baba built several temples around the world. But Kainchi Hanuman Mandir was one of the two temples, he built personally.
