If all the black money that has been declared under the amnesty scheme that ended on September 30 is distributed, each Indian would get Rs 18.
Before the 2014 elections, PM Modi had promised to bring substantial portions of black money within 100 days of forming government. The recovered money would be so huge, he promised to deposit Rs 15 lakh in every citizen's bank account.
The government had announced a three-month window for black money holders to declare their stash and escape prosecution.
After the scheme ended, the government announced that 638 taxpayers had declared undisclosed foreign assets worth Rs 3,770 crore. Of this the government gets to keep 60% (30 % as tax and 30 % as penalty) of the declared amount.
According to math done by The Telegraph the government will receive Rs 2,262 crore by December 31, which will amount to Rs 18 per head, if distributed.
