Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar has become the first Modi minister to take a firm stand against the demand on the government to ban beef consumption in the country.
Speaking on Sunday he rejected Baba Ramdev's demand for a national law to ban beef consumption, reports The Indian Express.
As it was a sensitive matter the government should not take a stand to satisfy any one group, but leave it to the individual opinion to decide, he said.
He also dismissed that RSS was behind the demand to ban beef.
Parrikar hails from Goa, one of the few states in India where cow slaughter is allowed. He also has a reputation for speaking his mind and occasionally issuing denials later on.
