Koko, the gorilla who can communicate fluently through sign language, has adopted two kittens, which she received as a present on her birthday.
Though The Gorilla Foundation,California , celebrates her birthday on July 4, it uploaded the celebration video last week. The video shows Koko opening a box with five kittens and selecting two of them, Ms Grey and Ms Black. Then she goes to on to examine them gently and starts playing.
Koko had adopted two kittens cats in the 1980s when she was in her teens. One of them was tragically run over by a car leaving Koko heartbroken.
Koko, who has been raised in captivity, has a vocabulary of more than 1,000 words. She is known to express human emotions and has been recorded “crying” during the sad part of a movie and mourning Robin Williams’ death.
The Gorilla Foundation is best known for "Project Koko," the long-running interspecies communication study.
