A video shot at KhaoYaiNational Park went viral after it captured a herd of elephants attacking a biker and then sparing his life.

The video of the last Sunday incident has generated nearly 2 million views on YouTube.

It shows the herd cornering the biker and trumpeting angrily, but retreating without hurting him after he apparently begged for his life.

While many interpreted it as a humane gesture by the elephants, who took pity on the man, experts say it was never the elephants intention to kill him.

Bangkok Post reports that bikers ride through KhaoYaiNational Park creating loud noise and irritating the animals. The man who took the video of Sunday’s attack said four bikers had passed through the same spot, before the incident, angering the elephants.

Experts told the newspaper that elephants never felt threatened and had no intention to kill. They were doubtless angry and what they did was the animal equivalent of humans waving finger in face angrily.

After the incident KhaoYaiNational Park officials are reportedly planning to regulate traffic through the forest.
