Standing ovation for Modi in the British Parliament (video below) |
November 12, 2015, NewsCrunch
PM Modi won a standing ovation in the British Parliament after becoming the first Indian Prime Minister to address it.
As he ended his speech at the House of Commons, British MPs led by Prime Minister Cameron stood up and applauded the speech.
The clip, which showed the standing ovation, quickly went viral. A Times Now clip generated over 30,000 view on Facebook in the first hour of its upload.
In the speech laced with humour, Modi called for a global fight against terror, besides recalling Britain's shared history with India.
The speech and the standing ovation thrilled his supporters, who have seen their leader hit by a string of reverses, in the recent weeks. Their excitement soon gave way to anger against media and Modi's political critics, who they say, remain prejudiced against him.
The also picked on BBC and The Guardian reporters who had asked Modi a question about intolerance controversy in India during the press conference.

A standing ovation is usual. But a reverberating and thunderous applause is what makes it count. Brilliant speech....India is proud today..for after ages we got such a confident PM Narendra Modi
