Turkish soccer fans disrupted silent homage to Paris terror attacks victims, during a match against Greece, on Wednesday.

As the Greek and Turkish soccer players stood in line in silence the crowd began shouting Alla Ho Akbar. They also chanted slogans, which are inaudible in the video, and started jeering as well.

While the fans  effectively disrupted the homage, Turkish players stood in silence with their heads bowed.

The Turkish fans had similarly disrupted a silent tribute to Ankara blasts victims in October during a match against Iceland.

The behaviour of Turkish fans drew split opinion from commentators.

Ahmed Bedier, a media commentator on Islamic issues, wrote on his Facebook page that fans were only shouting a popular Turkish chant against terrorism,” reports Washington Post.

But many including Turkey’s manager Fatih Terim disagreed and said fans had shamed the country.

Syria’s Coach Fajr Ibrahim pointed out that while Paris attack victims were receiving recognition other victims of terror — and specifically those killed in Syria — had been ignored.

“We stand now 30 seconds for French, but all Syrian people killed, no one stand one second, you have to know this,” Ibrahim told AFP.
