Union Minister Smriti Irani continued with her frosty relations with media by launching a fullscale attack on an Economic Times reporter on Monday.
ET had carried a report stating Smriti Irani had made 5,100 recommendations to admissions at Kendriya Vidyalaya schools, a four-fold jump from her predecessors.
It also note that the government was looking into why only 3,000 of these recommendations had been honoured. The report filed by Anubhuti Vishnoi was based on an unnamed source, who had attended a board meeting on October 30.
In an adjoining opinion column ET had criticised Smriti Irani for continuing the patronage system despite Modi calling for a professional approach in governance.
Taking offense Smriti Irani accused Anubhuti Vishnoi of lying and having an agenda. By tweeting, she said, she was making her contempt for the report public. She also added that readers like her had stopped subscribing to ET because of reporters like Anubhuti Vishnoi.
Smriti Irani has taken on the media similarly in the past as well. When The Hindu reported that the government had made a U-turn on German language, she tweeted saying she did not expect the newspaper to report truth.
The audience at an Aaj Tak show revolted after she paraphrased a question from anchor suggesting it was sexist in nature.
